It's been so long since I loaded pix I am having to relearn it all over again. Not like riding a bike!

I Think that works. The Prussian horde is out on the table again, more units added so, picture time!

Last time they were out we fought a Ligny { sort of} action. I played French and my younger less experienced opponents { near zero experience} were the Prussians. They received a sound thrashing and bloody nose.

whole battalions removed from play turn after turn. I lamented, " there goes 40 hours worth of painting time and they hardly fired a shot"

This time , I'll be the Prussians.

Yep - still like 'em a lot. Having recently completed a Nap Gun battery - I can really appreciate the work that went in to produce that pic. And yours are half the size of the ones I did! I can't do that - 54mm are just about manageable for my old eyes - and not those little beauties.

Great pic. - and great work putting it all together. Well done - and thanks for sharing. johnnybach

Great work on painting. The figures and scenes look really neat . Thanks for the pics. John

Bored, Deployed Prussians. A few new units since summer.

Harold, Great stuff!!!!^&cool I wish all those figures were available in 1/32 scale. You have an incredible Prussian army there. I see a few units there that I wanted to try converting in 1/32. The amount of Napoleonic figures available in 1/28 and 1/72 makes me so jealous! Your giving me a bad case of scale envy. Great set up, great painting and great collection! AAA+++++++++++++++++ I would have to convert and paint every day for years to match that in 1/32 scale or be old and gray waiting for someone to release all those sets in 1/32.
Your tempting me into that scale but I can,t afford starting a new scale so I guess I,ll have to stick to slowly converting my own.

I love the cavalry figures!^&cool I want to try and build some Prussian/Russian cavalry I have been trying to do a mold of a basic figure without head or arms in riding pants with button legs that could be used for various Prussian/Russian cavalry.
It would be good for Russian and Prussian dragoons and various other Prussians, then I just need to mold some heads to add on. Any chance you might venture into having some 1/32 scale cavalry made??? If you do a basic dragoon uniform and a few different heads/arms you can get a lot of mileage from the bodies with various heads and a bit of conversion. Same can also be done with a basic cuirassier body and various heads with a bit of tweaking. I,m going to try messing around with both and see what I can come up with but I,m no sculptor, but If I can just get one of each body style make a good mold that works???#&%#%$#% I could convert the bodies to different poses and units and make molds of those also with various different arms with swords, lances, pistols, flags, bugles, wounded, carbines ect.. and make tons of different figures and units from various nations like Prussians,Russians, Austrians,Bavarians,Saxons ect... With the various heads and a bit of converting the sky is the limit because many of the uniforms are very similar. A basic Hussar and lancer uniform could get a lot of mileage also if done in headless/armless kit form also.

What do you think??? You ready to have a few more figures sculpted? One body each of each body style, one left arm holding the rains and a few different right arms with various weapons and positions then have various heads made from each nation. All in kit form so they can be tweaked into various poses. With a few bodies and heads you could cover most of the cavalry we have been missing for years!
Horses would be the other problem but I,d be happy with just the troopers for a start. I bought a bunch of those Italeri Hussar sets and the sheep skin dragon tooth saddles can be used for most of the above.

Tim, Why do you think I went back to war game scale?
Anything you sculpt I can make molds for. I use 9" molds , so figure 4 bodies and assorted heads, arms whatever should all fit. Cheap too. You make'em, I'll mold them for you. A four fig mold will run you about $75.00 for me to make.
Alloy is up near $20.00 a pound delivered, that'll make you about 8 troopers.
My 54mm collecting is about done. I'll get some new Britian's here and there but for Napoleonic I love the 28mm.Everything is available. We might only get 3-4 war games done a year and the 28mm is even a bit large scale for Napoleonic.
The 54mm are just for collecting and setting out once in a great while. Maybe a skrimish game , Sharpe's adventures and such.
Springs coming, I'll be hanging around the shop more, so i can make your one of a kind creations into mass's , if you want.

Now to work on those British 28mm.

Great images there Harold {bravo}}..Im working on British artillery Perry and Front Rank surprising they match up in size rather well.
{however the French dont} so best to keep them in seperate battery's...I dont plan on using to much Front Rank infantry but there Guns are a work of art!!
Get working on those British Harold and post some pics....might try and post some pics myself soon just need to paint up more French but im a slow painter!

Harold,

That is really superb! This gives new collectors of historical figurines another economical choice to be part of this hobby! Thanks for posting your dioramas and keep posting by all means! Love seeing the spectacles! {bravo}}

french advance_edited-1.jpgfrench heavy2_edited-2.jpg

This is not really a cheaper alternative. It depends on what you want to do. A dozen 60mm cavalry , or 200 28mm? Of course you could get by with smaller units or less units but what fun would that be?

The French a starting to advance, more, lot's more massing .

The flavor of the week this week is,--------- Poles and Saxons. Found some nice figures.

Cuirassier falling of horse dang i forgot about that one must get him!......quick move them allied troops to the otherside of the reverse slope!

Fubar,

I can only describe your collection as magnificent, truly magnificent! {bravo}} {bravo}} {bravo}}

Please keep posting more photos.

Thanks

Jeff

I love seeing massed troops from the Napoleonic era. These dioramas are sensational.
Personally I have tried to do this with 54mm figures but its quite costly especially with the cavalry.
To me there is just more satisfaction with a larger figure. Funny to say but I think 54/60mm figures have more "personality" (animation, detail and variety of poses).

Believe me, I have thousands of 54mm/60mm Napoleonic, singly and enmasse they are impressive.First Legion is certainly prolific and make drop dead gorgeous figures. It's simply a choice, 1 60mm stunner, or 36 different 28mm infantry castings. But you are terribly limited in #1 poses, #2troops types, {in particular Cavalry and Artillery both of which can be very expensive to make units of in that scale}#3 Nationalities. Availability of every Nationality and nearly every unit type is available in 28mm . Hundreds upon hundreds of different poses and figures for just French Line Infantry. The assortment of beautiful castings available from around the world is immense, every period of the era from 1795 thru 1815.
You can find an order of Battle for a certain Army at a certain time and battle and find troops to build it.
I just found some spectacular SAXON Zastrow Cuirassier and Garde du Korps , which I have wanted to model for years.Same with Russian 1812 Horse artillerymen in Dragoon helmets. Will probably never see those in 54mm . That's the upside, variety and availability. Downside is painting them all, or you can have a painting service perform the tedious task.
My display/ war game table is 6' x 16' and I cannot begin to deploy all my 54mm for Waterloo. Many have to stay on the shelf. Even in 28mm it's impossible but it looks more like a field of battle, and again, I can find all the different units in a wide variety of poses that I can manage.
As far as painting, Rob, I have the Perry French Lancers , enough for another unit including the troops getting hit with canister. I'll try and post some painting pix as I go from start to finish.
Just started on a 28mm Prussian limber team.

Sorry but i have to disagree there,28mm beats 54/60mm hands down when it comes to variety of poses infact its not even close!
There is also loads of "personality" animation and detail with 28mm i think the little guys might even beat the big guys there also.
Its the little things the 28mm guys have that i just marvel at "like a spare pair of shoes hanging off a backpack"
I was doing 54mm naps for 8 years and switched to 28mm over a year ago for all the reasons "above".....but each to there own i guess! :smile2:

I must say - I love the little fellas - especially when - as shown in the pics here - they are en-masse. You just can't beat sheer numbers with any TS for a wonderful display, I think. Problem is though - for some of us with elderly eyes - they are too darn small for some (including me), to paint! I only wish I could have come across these about thirty years ago ( I might be about half-way to painting those by then!).

They are simply wonderful - and whoever painted them - (as I believe some were bought painted) - they are a magnificent sight - and I take my hat off to the lads (or lasses) that painted them. Hats off to you too Fubar - for painting and displaying them - as you have. Whilst you can still do it - keep at it - and please show us more, when you can. I'm full of admiration for them.

Yes - that's the word for them......... Magnificent. jb.
