Fuel Truck Review (1 Viewer)

Yesterday I spent a couple hours working on my new Figarti German Fuel Truck. It is a truly wonderful model. I display it with the crew refueling two JG Miniatures sets - JG3FD01 (3 Oil Drums, 4 Jerry Cans and 2 Buckets).

However,
1. As an Opel Blitz truck frame, it is smaller than the K&C Opel Blitz truck. I compared them cab to cab. But, if you don't display them together then no harm no foul.

2. The wheels do not rotate.

3. The hinges on the back panels are very delicate and very easily broken. The top hinge on the left side broke when I was opening it. I was not using a lot of pressure. The hinges are extremely small and I don't believe they are capable of very much use. I now have a glued shut panel door.

4. Of the three figures, the guy to be placed on the running boards, yelling back to his comrades, is not 1:30, unless he is a miget and you know how the nazis treated "sub-humans". The guy running the hand pump could be a "short" man, and the guy holding the hose filling what ever you choose, is just right. I compared them to other Figarti figures, K&C figures and Honour Bound figures. Same result each time.

5. The hoses on the hand pump were badly kinked and would not unbend from their deformed shape from shipping. One cure for the bending is to place them in very hot water and reform them. Another cure, the one I used, was to insert 22-gauge wire into them and use the inserted wire as a "back bone" for shaping. Be aware that the hand pump, hand pump handle and its base are very fragile and will come apart if handled too much. I did manage to put mine back together with a lot of patience.

6. The packing in the box is superior to other types. The above problems were not a result of handling during shipping but are rather problems in design.

7. Overall, a great model despite the above problems. Figarti has achieved precision with very delicate parts. With delicate parts come the problems of handling, shipping, and big chubby fingers.

I would buy it again.

Unfortunately, the way to go with Figarti seems to buy them in person and examine them closely before going out the door.

You got me worried about my fuel truck that should arrive today. I hope I dont find it in pieces. Im sure it will be nice.

Thanks for your review.

I to have seen this item in person and it is very, Very, nice. :)

Thanks Michael for your fine review of the new Figarti vehicle. I appreciate it. Leadmen

Partly due to our improved exchange rate I bought the Fuel Truck and the Launch Control Vehicle today, they should arrive downunder in a week or so.

Go you Aussie Dollar ;)

My fuel truck arrived yesterday in its new & improved packaging in great shape and is currently sitting on its new Luftwaffe airfield. Nice set indeed!

Enjoy,
Beaufighter

Well got my fuel truck today. Everything seems to be in good order.Im happy with it. :)

Also got mine, everything arrived safely. But will concur the one figure is more 1-35th. I also use mine with my German planes, not the rocket.

Der Fuel Truck

Here is one for the MODERATORS to review....When Battle Scene productions made our accurate assessment of this, and other V2 related products, it caused a storm of controversy, especially from George from Minuteman Toy Soldiers........this ACCURATE ( And I mean that ) assessment started by Sceic2 was greeted very passively......Just wondering about the politics that goes on here. Nick and I are not as dumb as we look..........We are as ACCURATE as possible, and FOR THE COLLECTOR. So everyone get that straight, and cut the politics, we don't appreciate it. We know there are favorites and cronies, and our honesty and independence does not sit well with some. So I challenge the MODERATORS to retain this Honest statement by BSP. Nick and I are Public Servants (Police and Fire) and not businessmen, who look at the bottom line. We believe in camaraderie and brotherhood, we live it every day at work, and that is how we run Battle Scene Productions. Treefrog has provided a great service to the collector with this Forum, and we have done nothing but helped, buy providing entertainment and telling it like it is. This is a Hobby for God sake.... Alex,

I think some are more picky than others, i buy stuff b/c it looks cool, I don't care much between 1/30 and 1/35. That said, I usually am more in tune to vehicle size than figures. But, that's me, everyone is different. You guys really model stuff, so I am sure it is more important to you, I just buy stuff b/c it looks cool!

As for figures of the canine variety, I am a "rivet counter" when it comes to those figures!:):)

Every opinion and preference is valid, I think sometimes, those with differing opinions tend to lose patience with those on the other side, I am sure modelers would hate my collection!

Not a big deal..........My point was more ethics than accuracy........Everyone get back to the calm review......

Alex,
Not sure where you are going with this, specifically you singling me out.

First off, I and I am sure others on this forum respect and appreciate your public service (Police? I thought you told me Nick was a mailman, not a police officer........), my father as you know was a Boston Police officer for 37 years and many, many customers of mine are police, fire and military personel.

Secondly, what does politics have to do with any of all of this? You and I have discussed this in private already; you want to now make this a public situation, fine then.

You said the fuel truck was small compared to the command halftrack, which I then said should be the case as in real life, true to scale, they were not the same size, the command halftrack was and should be bigger.

You then said "Ok, you are right, it's not a scale issue, it's a size issue, two different things".

Now you are beating this dead horse and complaining that the response regarding Michaels review has been passive?

How about this; people are sick of talking about this, did you ever stop to think that is the issue?

And you are right about one thing; it is a hobby, so enjoy it.

Just to clarify the reasons why I posted this thread.

First, because I do not have a retailer or dealer within any reasonable distance (the nearest being Treefrog, about 5 hours to the southeast of me) thereby making it most impracticable for me to see the product prior to making a purchase decision. I have come to rely on manufacturer's photographs, opinions from members of this forum, and advice from my friend George at Minute Man to make my first and primary purchase decisions. This process changes only when I become comfortable with a particular manufacturer and I can rely on their improvement efforts or their reliability in the products I own. My personal history with a particular maker has a lot to do with future purchase decisions.

Second, I thought I would just pass along to others my opinion of the fuel truck after having held it in my hands and seen it up close. I would hope that my review would aid others in their decision making process just as I rely upon other reviews for mine.

And lastly, I have come to realize that nothing in life is perfect. Everything has flaws, blemishes, and errors in accuracy. If I would only buy those figures and vehicles that were 100% accurate, I would not have a collection that I am very pleased with.

In my estimation, some people take to many things to seriously. Life is too short. After all, as my dear grandmother used to say when she held me in her arms when I was but a babe, gentling rocking me to sleep on the front porch as the sun set in the glorious blue and vivid pink western sky, “Michael my grandson”, she used to say, “ Remember life is too short to take seriously, ya never get out of it alive.” Maybe some people take some things just too seriously and they should stop and watch a sunset.:)

Michael:

Thanks for the Thread it is most helpful! A lot of us do not have dealers close by where we could go and see items in person. It can be difficult deciding what to order from photos, which is why I enjoy pictures of the actual item in peoples collections.

I love Figarti's attention to detail, but I really have a hard time dealing with items breaking, or being really fragile. I like them to be sturdy enough to be handled carefully without risking damage.

Your excellent review saved both me, and my dealer a potential headache.

Thanks!:)

I am in the same boat and value these reviews. In spite of living in a big city like Toronto, there is only one K&C dealer here with limited stock and no Figarti, CS or Honour Bound dealers. Everything I buy is based on the photos, the manufacturer's previous pieces that I have, and peoples comments after they have actually seen the piece.

Some of the Figarti pieces, especially the Grant, are very fragile while others like ther Panzer IV are fairly solid. So I rely on peoples opinion for Figarti more so than other manufacturers.

So why did I pre-order the Horns of the Red Bull before anyone has seen it.
