Hi Guys,

As many of you know I’m a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam epic “FULL METAL JACKET” and that’s one of the main reasons myself and K&C decided to produce our ‘VIETNAM’ series which I’m delighted to say has been so warmly welcomed by collectors all over the world.

Yesterday I got an extra special surprise when a UPS parcel arrived on my desk from America.

Inside was a very special book... “FULL METAL JACKET DIARY” by actor Mathew Modine who played ‘Joker’ in the movie.

During the 18 months or so that it took to film “FMJ” on the outskirts of London, Mathew Modine kept a written diary and took lots of photographs ‘behind the scenes’ of fellow actors and extras as well as the amazing film sets they worked on.

As a war-movie buff I love this sort of background info especially about a movie that has inspired me so much.

An added bonus was that my friend in Los Angeles, who’s in the movie business, and a K&C collector, had actually met Mathew Modine some months back and had the actor autograph an inside page for me because he knew I would be really ‘chuffed’!

Perhaps it’s coincidence but I’m actually working on several new “Full Metal Jacket” figures and a FMJ diorama. So, I thought I’d like to share this with you.

All the best,
Andy

Andy mate,
What an outstanding gift and very well deserved. Looking forward to seeing the FMJ figures and especially like the new dismounted 106mm RCL. Is there a seated gunner to come with the gun?? He would look great sitting on the tripod leg sighting the weapon.

Cheers Howard

Great present Andy and agree Howard having fired one a few times a seated figure would be ideal.

Oorah !

Really pleased to see the 106mm Recoiless Rifle as a future release Andy ! :salute:::salute:::salute::

Now I wonder if the ground mount is a separate piece as I'll be wanting to mount one on a M274 Mule ?

By the way Andy, What a great gift your friend gave you, especially with it being personalised and all ! {sm0}

Andy,

I got a cool gift like that from a friend in the hobby once . . . he knew my favorite author was the late great George MacDonald Fraser, and he gave me an autographed copy of Fraser's last book. Actually, he knew Fraser's daughter, had worked with her in an advertising agency, and had met the great man himself. Oh yeah . . . that was you!:salute::

Thanks again for the great gift, and I'm thrilled you got something equally special!

One of my favourite authors too Louis, as you may be able to tell :D ....what with Flashman, McAuslan and Mr American ....maybe it's time for a Black Cats range Andy, based on "Quartered safe out here "....

My favorites are the Dand MacNeil/MacAuslan series, and his wartime autobiography, "Quartered Safe Out Here" - a line borrowed from my other favorite author, Rudyard Kipling. If he did the characters from the 14th "Black Cat" Division from the Burma Campaign, or the slightly post-war Second Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders (Ninety-Twa and not dead yet), I would buy them all. I can imagine a young George MacDonald Fraser (perhaps holding a sandwich in the rain as he guards the great Bill Slim), with the Duke and Nixon, or the old mercenary ("with my permmish you'll get a commish"), or Dand MacNeil, MacAuslan, Regimental Sergeant Major MacIntosh, the bald Colonel, Wee Wullie, the Pipe Sergeant, the Adjutant, Captain Errol . . . it would be heaven. I snapped up the club figure of "Jumping Jack" Flashman (Harry's brother, who apparently was also a Captain in the 11th Hussars).

Hi Louis,
As I’ve said many times before, this hobby has given me an enormous amount of fun and enjoyment over the years.
At the same time I’ve made lots of friends all over the world of which I count yourself one of the best!
A major part of friendship is sharing ideas, common interests and ...the occasional gift.
Many thanks for that happy memory and...All the best,
Andy.
