Future and Forthcoming Warbirds (1 Viewer)

That's a sweet looking plane. Interesting that the Germans could never develop a long range strategic bomber like the B-17. A lot of hybrid fighter-bombers that were not really suited to either role. The Luftwaffe was really designed as a ground support mechanism for the army - like artillery. That's one reason they lost the battle of britain.

Doug-

To my knowledge, there were two attempts to develop a long range bomber and both failed: the Heinkel He 177 Greif and the Junkers Ju 290.

Pierre.

Some more possibles (again, not necessarily this scheme or particular model):

Heinkel 111
Henschel HS 129
Stuka
Junkers JU 88

I'm partial to desert so you'll have to excuse me

As we of most nations do ,from the safety of our homes, daily whine and moan about our piddling this and that, for 100's of years the real heroes of any generation have and continue to fight our battles, only to be forgotton, ignored and dispised....Thanks for letting us know about at least one of the forgotton..Michael

Well said indeed.

Squadron Members:

Do not forget the Focke-Wulf 200 Condor which was relegated to shipping duties! By the way, if K&C does a Stuka it would be fitting if it was Hans-Ulrich Rudel's-I believe he was the most decorated German during the war and even had air-to-air victories in that crate!

And a poorly disguised (for licencing issues) collectors club figure of the same would be in order as well! ;)

K&C did do Rudel's Stuka. I have one in the museum, and it is one of my favorites.

1/32 aircraft are to large for my needs but I do have Rudel's Stuka in 1/72 (Corgi) and 1/48 (Armor/Franklin Mint). The Stuka is an attractive aircraft in it's own ugly way.

Edit: I forgot that I do have an unmade Hasegawa 1/32 Storch that includes a metal Rommel, but it is only an emergency reserve if K & C don't issue a Rommel Storch at a price I'm willing to pay.

Btw, has anyone heard if K & C are considering gliders and or transport aircraft such as the DC-3/Dakota? I would certainly find some display room for them, if the price is right. I would even consider a Lancaster G-George if K & C made that version - does Andy do swaps :D

Continuing on, here is a possible Val and Kate (two images). I haven't posted photos of possible American planes as I assume everyone knows what they look like.

Couldn't agree more about the Stuka, cool yet ugly looking.Reminds me of some hideous bird of prey from Jurassic Park.

We have at the museum (i'm sure you've seen it Brad)a wonderful P51 Mustang with the Black and White checkered nose, she's a beauty and a fine example of a wonderful aircraft.

I already put an email in to Andy asking him to reserve me one of the Lancaster Dambusters. I just couldn't resist the opportunity to get one of these historic aircraft. If I can afford it when it comes out, I will have to get one of the Mosquitos as well - one of the most important aircraft of the war.

I am with you Louis if I collected the warbirds these are the Two I would get as well.Great minds must think alike.

Rob,

I have seen it and I think this is the one you're referring to.

To all my fellow Warbirds collectors, try to get this book and dream of which models Andy can make :)

Flying Colours by William Green and Gordon Swanborough, Salamander Books Ltd, 1981, 0-86101-079-5

Pierre.

There is actually two auctions on eBay for that title: 200216044787 and 260231801041 (very cheap!!!)

Andy has given me a couple of recommendations on books that he finds to be a great source of information. They are:

Warplanes of the Luftwaffe, edited by David Donald, and

British Warplanes of World War II, edited by Daniel J. March

They are both available through Amazon and abebooks and there are a couple of auctions on ebay as well. I have the British one on the way.
