Re: Fw 190 "dora"

Hi Guys,

Re the above aircraft… Here’s a “sitrep”… The master carving is complete and the first unpainted sample is on the K&C desk in front of me.

I’m still considering the paint scheme… so all suggestions are welcome and the field is still open for what it will look like

In the production schedule for 2012 there is also one more German aircraft, a British and American one and of course the “DORA”… As events unfold we’ll keep you posted.

Best wishes and happy flying
Andy C.
This is outstanding news. Please consider doing Kommodore Gerhard Barkhorn's FW190D "Christl" of Stab./JG6 Reich Defense Unit. As the world's all time 2nd leading ace with 301 victories, this would be a great and appropriate choice. It is a very famous 190D. -- Al

Looks great Neil, but I wonder if it looks too much like the Typhoon to be the next release??

Rob

It does have a thinner wing , when the Luftwaffe tested a captured version they thought it was the best fighter they tested ^&cool

Think you could be right a Kittyhawk or tank busting Hawker Hurricane would be nice

I might be tempted as well to buy this machine as the 1st airplane to be part of my WWII collection .

A beautiful kite indeed that used to be in my back yard at Falcon Field, Arizona which was also the former home of the American Fighter Aces Association. However, a gent by the name of Paul Allen bought the entire collection and moved it up to Paine Field in Everett, Washington-just North of Seattle. The Dora is so rare that it can not be insured for flight but they do taxi runs with it-almost everything else they have there flies during the summer so check their web site for the schedule as you will see some of the rarest combat veteran kites in the sky! Mr. Allen still has almost all of his restoration work done just South of Phoenix (Casa Grande) then the planes travel North to their new home. Check out the website link below for pictures of this rare beauty and a list of the other wonderful aircraft. Well worth the trip with extremely knowledgable gents running the show. Enjoy!

Hello Al,
Reading your great suggestive on the wing of Barkhorn's FW190D, I found some great information and wish to further expound, or back-up your choice with some historical data following;

With an astounding tally of 301 aerial victories, the legendary German ace pilot Gerhard Barkhorn goes down as one of the most successful aces in history. His total is only surpassed by the 352 recorded by Erich Hartmann. Surprisingly, it took 120 combat sorties for Barkhorn to score his first victory. Notwithstanding, he was shot down a total of 9 times. Surprisingly, he went scoreless during the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain. However, all 301 victories were recorded while flying over the eastern front. During this time, he became the first fighter pilot to complete 1,000 combat missions; a total that increased to 1,104 by the end of his career.

In early 1945, Gerhard Barkhorn flew as Geschwaderkommodore (Commander) of Jagdgeschwader 6 (JG 6). Armed with the Focke Wulf Fw190D-9 aircraft, the Reich defence unit was initially assigned to the Oder Front, flying ground strafing operations against advancing Soviet forces. As depicted in the photo below, the personal markings on Barkhorn’s Fw190D-9 included his wife’s name, "Christl," and a small number, "5," his lucky number. Ollie.

But, that can be a positive as its very easily sanded

As I'm finding out at the moment silver paint show up any imperfection on polystone so that could be the reason why we not seen a silver plane so far
