Back in late April, one of our police dogs 'Gazza' was shot and killed by an escaped offender on the run from police while staff were searching a two storied house near our capital Wellington. He was shot through an upstairs bedroom door with a shotgun, which narrowly missed both his handler and another officer. The dog handler managed to grab 'Gazza' and carry him down stairs, while covered by the officer who was only armed with a Glock pistol. Fearing he two was about to be shot through the paper thin wall by the offender the Sgt chose to leap through a closed upstairs window to safety, badly injuring his shoulder and wrist. Sadly Gazza died in his handlers arms out in the street in fron of the address moments later.
'Gazza's legacy is a new batch of puppies, which you'll see in this next clip.
