Back in late April, one of our police dogs 'Gazza' was shot and killed by an escaped offender on the run from police while staff were searching a two storied house near our capital Wellington. He was shot through an upstairs bedroom door with a shotgun, which narrowly missed both his handler and another officer. The dog handler managed to grab 'Gazza' and carry him down stairs, while covered by the officer who was only armed with a Glock pistol. Fearing he two was about to be shot through the paper thin wall by the offender the Sgt chose to leap through a closed upstairs window to safety, badly injuring his shoulder and wrist. Sadly Gazza died in his handlers arms out in the street in fron of the address moments later.

'Gazza's legacy is a new batch of puppies, which you'll see in this next clip.

Great story mate BUT there was something wrong with the Audio they all talked a wee bit funny ^&grin

Would be a good story I guess if the clip worked......Hobbits! :wink2:

Always sad to see animals lives being taken by the hand of man but the clip was great and hopefully Gazza's handler will have a new recruit soon. Thanks for posting mate.

Thanks for the story. The clip worked for me, but I had to use CC for audio.

Great story, thanks for sharing.

Stay safe out there.

Thanks, Jason, Tom, Wayne and all the views & likes. The injured officer's story has just featured in our police association magazine and it was a sobering read. While the police Sgt, Gazza and his handler were preparing to enter the upstairs bedroom where the offender was hiding with a woman, he fired without warning through the closed door. Gazza took the full blast, which narrowly missed both officers.

At the time he was not known to be in possession of a firearm. Even though gun violence is on the rise here, we are not authorised to mandatory carry firearms, only tasers if they are available. Which seems crazy I know.

Many thanks.
