Transport for the S.A.S. and the Long Range Desert Group in the North African Desert of World War II ran the gamut from camels ("Ships of the Desert") to jeeps and a variety of trucks. Like so many practitioners of irregular warfare these units adapted to the terrain. In the current war in Afghanistan, Special Forces have made use of donkeys and camels to get around the country's rough environment.

“Giddyup, Dammit”

Specialist Gardner, Florida Army National Guard, 53rd Infantry, had always wanted to ride a camel. While on patrol outside of the city of Farah, Afghanistan Gardner and his buddies came across a herd of camels. During their lunch break Gardner decided to seize the moment and fulfill his dreams. You gotta live your dreams, baby! Yeeehaw!

Dear Randy:

Another splendid photo! Are all these figures K&C?

Hi Guys,

Once again Randy your little vignette is superb and all of us at K&C love what you do… both creatively and graphically.

One small question though… in “Giddy up, Dammit!” Why is the American soldier attempting to commit an un-natural act with a grimacing camel?

I have a feeling this encounter will only end in heartache… and tears!!!!

Best wishes and happy collecting!

Thought the same thing maybe a idea for a new release mate.............:D

Hi Guys,

I have had a second thought about “Giddy up Dammit”… I think it’s all about a GI explaining the latest “Don’t ask… Don’t tell” army policy to an unresponsive camel!!

Best wishes and happy camel hunting… after all who wants to get an ugly one!

Andy C.

If you look quickly at the pic it looks like the soldier has the head and body of a human and the Legs of a Camel!:D;)

Thank you for your kind comments and encouragement. Here are a couple of pictures showing that the members of the Gordon Relief Expedition of 1884-85 had their own problems dealing with camels and donkeys as seen in these contemporary sketches.

That soldier trying to mount a camel seems as about as futile as ... no, no need to get political here.

Cool photo:rolleyes:
