July 3rd, just south of the copse of trees, a young major leads a last desperate charge over the stone wall through a gap in the Union line.

Captain Andrew Cowan's 1st New York Independent Battery of 3 inch ordnance rifles rapidly reloads as his gunners are dropped by minnie balls. Gun corporals give the ready signal and the command to fire is given.

The battery monument at Gettysburg reads "Double canister at ten yards."
