Glossy comeback... (1 Viewer)

What would the modern more detailed figures look like I wonder if they were painted in older glossy colors? I'm making a request to Andy to make me a special glossy figure...I will pay 500 dollars for a one off figure made by Andy for me...Andy are you listening??? Now who as an idea of which figure would be the most interesting candidate?

Buy yourself a second of any of the matte K&C pieces that you're thinking of as glossy, and dip it in Future. You'll have a glossy version of that figure, for much less than $500.

Prost!
Brad

I would do as Brad said get an extra figure that you like and redo it gloss just think what you could buy for that amount and get redone by some of the great painters on this forum alone

It wouldn't be the same...as the glossy colors were/are unique and have a flavor of their own!

Hi all, if you really want a neat idea, wouldn't it be great if andy bought the trophy molds and resurrected trophy. Now that would be something. Put len on retainer . My god , king and country and trophy under one well run roof. What a powerhouse

The "new" trophy figures would be more expensive than what the "old" Trophy and before long we would have a new series of Trophy brownshirts on holiday in the Sudan.

Hi Guys,

I’m presently working on a wee project that might, quite possibly be made available in both matt (note the spelling) and traditional gloss.

So, all is not definitely lost on the gloss front! It’s an interesting one and harks back to an earlier era in the K&C story. Let’s see what pans out.

Best wishes and … a very merry Christmas to one and all!

The major areas for K & C in the early days were Zulus/Seaforths, SOHK and Napoleonics, with some smaller amounts of ACW, NW Frontier, Alamo, Rough Riders, WW II and whatnot such as Jockeys and Mounties.

We have SOHK in gloss so it's not that, Napoleonics (but I doubt we'll see them in gloss), Rough Riders, ACW, Alamo and WW II, all of which I doubt we will see in gloss.

The only logical candidates would be Zulus or NW Frontier. If so, those would be interesting to see in gloss after all these years. I know this field is saturated but who wouldn't be interested in K & C Seaforths in gloss. I can't get enough of the old ones and just picked up an old set of a piper leading six soldiers in khaki.

Merry Christmas Andy to you and your family :)

"A Day at The Races", "Civilians" & "Personalities"...imagination is running! I think it would be out of the norm?

Glossy never left... I always had room for glossy figures in my collection. Mostly Napoleonic Tradition sets. There is something about a set of glossy figures in a glass cabinet that matte painted figures cannot accomplish... :) It's a nice variety!

Is there a clue by name in his (note the spelling) comment? Is it possible there is a Matt thats looking into a promotional line ie: Crimean line?
I know that I always thought that if I got to be a K&C vendor a great promotional figure would be a glossy.

I looked way back and they used the wording in their company profile info "Matt-finish" before without the "E"...if this means anything...I like a good mystery!

I wouldn't mind seeing the Boxer Rebellion in a gloss finish, failing that NW Frontier.

Btw, Matt is the correct spelling in English.

Boxer rebellion or nw frontier are great choices jeff, or a french foriegn legion beau geste type line

Re: Matt or Matte?

Hi Guys,

My use of the word “matt” to describe a type of paint, colour or painting style is just that… MATT no more… no less… and no mysterious clue either!!!

“Matt”, at least in my English dictionary is described as “not reflecting light; not glossy or shiny”.

Hope this helps, best wishes and happy collecting!

Or maybe when he first wrote it, Mrs N. was making him put down the dinner "mats." :D

Dear Andy:

It should be noted that any NON gloss figure or other metal item can be converted to be a gloss items by just getting a spray can of clear gloss and spraying the items to then have a gloss finish. I did this once when I first stating collecting and I got some unpainted castings and painted them in "matte" paint and later sprayed them in clear gloss paint. They were as glossy as anything purchased from any toy soldier store.

By the way, per my (USA) Webster's Dictionary from 1961 the word for NON gloss items is "MATTE" or "MAT". In any case, I realize there are assorted words that are spelled one way in the UK, etc and another way in the USA, such as "colour" Vs "color" in the USA.
