Gloves? (1 Viewer)

No gloves, but clean hands always. I have also heard that natural hand oils are good for the paint- including matt.
Hope that helps,
Sandor

I know someone who has one and did not use the gloves thinking he knew best and, now has spoiled the effect of the aircraft. I prefer gloves and, can tell anyone on here that its better using them if you collect things like the LAH parade troops as the gloss parts will dull eventually if you don't.

I suppose its all down to the individual collector how they treat their collectables

Figarti has the P38 "Marge" plane that comes with gloves for handling purposes due to the as they call it metallic paint finish.

i have trouble having only mittens and those little cords they hang from

Mine so far have been fine with handling without gloves and not washing my hands first. (Who knows maybe the chemicals used during washing your hands may do worse things than the oils from your hands?)

Totally agree my friend, quiche or no quiche!!

Seriously the gloves are for protecting the finish on the plane. Otherwise there would be fingerprints all over the thing. You guys{sm4}

Gentle Friends,

I want to add a post script to Michael's message. It is my understanding that Michael's information is correct and, further, I understand that once fingerprints are applied to the model, they are incredibly difficult to remove.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Pat..

That is correct and, I alluded to that in my post. A friend thought he knew better and did not feel he needed gloves to handle the figarti aircraft. He cannot remove the fingerprints, more like smudges from his aircraft. He is now not so mocking when I am cleaning mine with gloves!!!

On reflection, that makes me think that Figarti is not using a very good paint and lacquer to make that finish.

There are metalizing paints for reproducing natural metal finishes on a model--Alclad is one such product--and any modeler who uses them will tell you that they are delicate. We have to exercise care in preparing the surface before applying them, and in handling them after application. But they eventually cure, and then get sealed. If you can touch that Figarti model and it mars the finish, something's definitely wrong with the finish. I can see that you'd leave a fingerprint on the cured surface, but you should be able to wipe that away with gentle buffing and the finish should remain untouched.

Prost!
Brad
