I got an e-mail from Andy, which included the following information:

"Gordon is hoping to come back to San Antonio in January to set up “K&C Dioramas” to design and manufacture displays and dioramas for K&C dealers as well as collectors."

If you have not seen the incredible dioramas Andy & Gordon have designed and built over the years, you have no idea what you are missing. There is no better way to display your K&C collection. I think this could be the answer to John Gambale's request for a "Sahara" desert ruin. John, give Gordon a call, and your wish could be his command.

Do you think he could do an Arnhem Bridge diorama for me?
With a god scale for king and country soldiers, and some 3D buildings to put around the bridge (So the British arn't standing in the middle of the street thinking 'Where's our cover'?

Gordon and Andy produced an incredible seven foot long Arnhem Bridge diorama which came with ten 3-D backlot buildings. Another quote from the book:

"For the 1996 Chicago Toy Soldier Show Andy and his brother Gordon produced one of their most impressive dioramas: a seven foot long Arnhem Bridge. Andy and Gordon purchased a three foot long plastic rail road bridge, built two two foot long wood and papier mache piers with pill boxes, barb wire and painted them with clever slogans like “Deutchland kaput!” Believe it or not (perhaps because of the shear scale of the bridge) this diorama did not sell for more than two years, and made repeat appearances at the show, between which it was stored in then Chicago area K&C dealer Bill Hurlbutt’s garage. This bridge was eventually sold by Bill Hurlbutt to the subsequent Chicago area dealer for $500.00."

Steven,

I had no idea! Well that explains why it didn't sell for a while. In todays market that would be steep, but back in 1996 a price like that for a K&C item was unheard of!

Didn't I read somewhere that Diorama had a $10,000 price tag associated with it now?

Njja

I was quoted $5,000 by the present owner, I heard someone else was quoted $10,000. All I can say is I wouldn't pay $3,000 for it, much less $10,000, and there have been no takers yet if the price quote is true.

I asked Bill Moore if he still had the Arnhem diorama but he said he sold it for $14725!!!

The Arnhem bridge has been sold, but the transaction is subject to a sucessful conclusion later this year. The price includes my entire Arnhem theme ie: Horsa glider, buildings, and my entire K&C British A.B collection.

Bill:

Is the collection staying in the US or traveling abroad?

Njja

I don't suppose anyone's got any photos of the set up in all it's glory have they?

Simon

Bill has photos of course, he sent me some awhile ago. Very impressive to

say the least. Does anyone know if the Horsa was King & Country?

Njja

If the First Arnhem theme transaction is concluded it will stay in the states I presume. If not, the second in line would take it out of the country. I will try to get Marcus T. to take some pictures and post them on the website. By the way the bridge stayed in the Hurlbutt garage one year, not two.

Bill,

It would be appreciated if you can get some photos. I've been toying with the idea of trying to construct something of that magnitude for a while, for my own personal amusement, so I would be interested to see this set up.

I just need the motivation to get started.

Along with possibly a new range of K&C British Paras.

Cheers
Simon

I believe Bill previously said on another thread some while back that he had a Motion Models Horsa so that may be the one he sold.

A one of a kind Brandenburg Gate in the SA store would be fantastic for the Berlin line - either '38 or '45.

This is terrific news; think of how awesome it would be for dealers like myself to be able to have Gordon build dioramas to use as display pieces for new K & C ranges. I for one will be ordering dioramas from Gordon for show displays......................
