As the Movie thread was so successful I though I might start a similar discussion about favourite action scenes or moments from movies or TV.
It doesn't have to be confined to War films it can be from any genre i guess.

As a starter I'll put forward

Heat.
Not a war film but It has a fantastic bank robbery that ends with the ultimate shoot out in the street outside. It has a realism about it and the sound of the guns when you watch it in the cinema almost has you ducking for cover!

Aliens.
When the marines are inside the generator complex having surrendered their ammo to avoid damaging the reactor. All of a sudden aliens start coming out of the walls on every side. Vasquez slams a clip she's hidden into her massive gun and yells "Lets Rock!" :)

I get emotional every time lol

Windtalkers.
An OK film but the opening scene in the Solomon Islands with Japanese infantry coming at the marines from all directions is pretty cool and exciting.

I love the movie The Good the Bad and the Ugly. There was a great Civil War battle in the movie. When I seen that, I wanted the movie to stay there. Also all the Dirty Harry flicks, or one of my favorite lines from Clint, "are you going to pull them things or whistle Dixie" what movie? Mike.

Picketts charge in the movie Gettysburg, my favorite. Then the Omaha landing in SPR.
Gary

The Wind and the Lion when US gunboat policy sends Marines running through streets of Morrocco and firing on royal palace. Also the whole concept of the late 1800's. The cavalry charge at end is neat also. Leadmen

Ah Leadman a classic

"Hostiles to the left! Face! Present! Fire! Charge!!!!"

Great lines! Great movie with the other European Powers have morning tea or coffee as the Marines and Navy double time by!!! Ah the good old days.;)

Very fun and motivating thread.

Another great battle scene is, in the movie The Vikings, when they are unloading on the coast of england. Pushing the large oak battering ram to sack the castle. Great stuff. Mike.

Outlaw Josey wales.Great movie. Also love the first confrontation with the bandits In the Magnificent seven.

How about the final sword fight in the original movie "The Highlander", or just about every fight scene in the Lord of the Rings movies?

I'm with James on the Heat shoot out - Awesome

Driving scenes - Bullitt (obviously) and all of the chase scenes in Ronin

Police shoot outs - The final half hour or so of Hot Fuzz. Just seen it (don't know if it's out in the US) but it's hilarious - British Policing at it's finest.

Stirring war movie clips (always seem to be accompanied by great music) - Apocolypse Now - Air Cav, Black Hawk Down - Faith no more / Falling to pieces.

Other war movie clips - Sniper scene in Anzio, Chaffees counter attack in Battle of the Bulge, Shermans attack on rail road works in Kelly's Heroes.

Sci-Fi - Aliens as per Eazy's clip and the first person perspective clip in Doom (alright the film may not be up to much, but that bit was slick).

The alien spaceship blowing up the building in NY in Independence Day. Seeing and hearing in surround sound.

Another Brilliant thread, here are some of mine;

Omaha Beach landing and German counterattack on the Village, SPR.

Germans dug in taking on hordes of T34's and their initial assault on the factories, Stalingrad 1992 version.

Russian assault across the Volga in Enemy at the Gates.

The Seige scene in Kingdom of Heaven.

The French Cavalry charge in Waterloo.

The Confederate attack on the Union far left position in Gettysburg.

The Union assault on the heights in Gods and Generals.

The third Russian attack on the Fins in Winter War.

The German counterattack in the hedgerows vs the US Airborne in Band of Brothers.

The Arab attack on the FFL position around the archiological dig site in March or Die.

The 9th and 10th SS Recon assault across Arnhem Bridge in A Bridge Too Far.

The Zulus overrun the British positions in Zulu Dawn.

The second Chinese assault on Peking in 55 days at Peking.

The final attack on Khartoum in the movie by the same name.

The Marine landing on Iwo in Flags of our Fathers.

The second assault by the wolves on the British Soldiers hold up in the farmhouse in Dog Soldiers.......................

And here I thought that I was the only one who had seen Dog Soldiers.....
The wolf warriors charge in The Mummy Returns
The sand storm with the face in The Mummy
The duel scene between Connery and the kidnappers in The Wind and the Lion

Hi Guys

Wow I can't believe that 3 of us saw Dog soldiers:eek: !!!

American Sniper in SPR shooting the Germans in the town before the Assault gun showed up.

And of course the bank Doors blowing up in Kellys Heros! WUFF WUFF

All the best

Dave

  • Opening battle scene - Gladiator
  • Omaha Beach landing – Saving Private Ryan
  • Final attack on the Death Star – Star Wars
  • US Calvary Assault on Confederate Artillery Position – The Horse Soldier (you gotta love John Wayne)
  • Japanese Army’s sudden takeover of Shanghai - Empire of the Sun

These are but only a few I can remember off the top of head. They’re so many more.

You can't beat a good cavalry charge for action. And the four mile cavarly charge leading up to the "Battle of Beersheba" from the movie "The Lighthorsmen" is the best I've seen.

The movie has recently been digitally demastered and re-released on dvd.

Dog Soldiers! How could I forget. Classic scenes. Also mounted John Wayne vs 4 mounted baddies in True Grit.

Dave

Ya better make that four Dave :)

That movie had some great lines as well. For example when Megan the Zoologist was turning into a werewold she says: "You may think all women are b1tches..... but I'm the real thing.....and it's that time of the month".

Make that 5 saw Dog Soldiers and loved it too.

But how about "The Descent" from the same writer/director? A group of hot girls lost in underground caves and fighting gollum type creatures with bare hands and the occasional pick.

The scene where the last two girls go hand to hand with a group of troglodytes is a fine and gruesome action scene! :)

some of my top picks would be
1.the charge of the rohirman in lotr return of the king
2.the lobby scene from the original matrix
3.major fight scene in 'kung fu hustle'
4.neo learns to fight [matrix]
5.opening scene of saving private ryan.
6.mungo punching out a horse in blazing saddles
