Hi,
I was just wondering what people preferred in Great War (WWI) collecting....
-Sandor

Big WW1 buff. I checked everything but ceremonial. Can't have everything.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Take note of this as it grows, manufacturers! I don't see many of these patterns followed.

Like Al huge WW1 nut so its all good as they say. Western front is my theatre of choice although Brits,Aussies and Turks at Gallipoli are also of great interest. Even though I don't own any at the moment I must say its great to see K&C and JJ making superb WW1 Aircraft now, am thinking of ending this drought in London next month.

I really like the early war K&C German & British Infantry. Also, the JJD Triplane along with the "Red Baron" figure is one of my favorites. It's been hard to keep from going overboard with this range once I started it... so be careful getting sucked in Rob!^&grin

I prefer the Western Front and hope that manufactures will produce more Great War lines of all combatans, but more vehicles and artillery is a must with an emphasis (for me) on British Imperial forces.(which can be easily adapted to Australian) IMHO.

Thanks for the poll, I have listed my preferences including the Australians, or was it Austrians, I always get them mixed up :wink2:

and artillery is a must

I've always wondered why you don't find more WWI artillery. IMHO it's as varied and interesting as the WWII armor, I guess it just doesn't sell well. I would probably expand my collection further into this era if more field pieces were available.

As a WW1 collector, especially of aircraft and anything French related, I am thrilled with the current offerings from JJD and KC. JJD's aircraft are superb and unequalled, while I feel the same about the KC early war French infantry. The KC French infantry are really well done, very colorful, and very accurate. I also really like the KC ALH series but cost has kept me out of that. If a collector is willing to expand their buying from matte into gloss, there is an excellent alternative in Soldiers of the World, from Regal. SoW offers a huge line of different WW1 figures, from the usual Western Front to the more unusual Mid-East and Eastern Front campaigns. Their offerings include Austrians, Russians, Turks, ALH, NZ mounted and infantry, and even Maori troops. There is also the option, for the Western Front figures, of getting the troops, infantry, cavalry, and artillery, with gas masks, if so desired. It is quite a large and varied line. Take a look at their site, www.regaltoysoldiers.com. The US distributor is Mike Russo of Stockade Miniatures. -- Al

Thought the K&C Scottish WWI figures were very well done. Picked up several boxes when that wonderful Toy Soldier store in Highland, NY next to West Point closed their doors.

Hi from Belgium.

I collect ww1 figures since 2006. This collection is very fantastic.
I have almost all the collection Britains "Premier series" ,all the collection K & C WW1 and almost all the Australian lighthorse.
I have no K & C WW1 planes but I will soon receive 5 planes from the WW1 JJD collection.

Figures represent for me a great passion, a real pleasure and a serious budget :redface2:.
Fortunately for me I am not interested in the other collections.{sm3}

I hope there are a lot of members with the same passion for ww1 figures on the forum{sm0}

Hi biker3700. You will be pleased with the JJD aircraft as they are well detailed and accurate. They are the best. -- Al

Welcome Biker 3700!

I collect a good bit of WWI from several manufacturers. Like you, I have most of the Britains premier, and I collect the John Jenkins Designs WWI aircraft, pilots and ground crew. I also have many Trophy WWI pieces, a good bit of Toy Army Workshop and its successor Yeomanry Miniatures, and some Tommy Atkins WWI.

My favorite WWI manufacturer by far is Heco Tinplate Models, sadly, like Trophy, now out of business. I have more than 100 WWI aircraft, Tanks, Armored Cars, Trucks, artillery pieces, airfield buildings and related figures from Heco.

You are right that this hobby is expensive, but loads of fun. Enjoy!:smile2:

I'm just sitting here waiting......biding my time and saving my money......until someone somewhere decides to focus on Gallipoli.

Australia/Turkey Front,especially Gallipoli would be my choice.
Mark

Yes, Britains did have a Gallipoli set planned a few years ago and it looked good but alas it wasn't to be. We'll have to wait and see whether K&C move away from Palestine or indeed Thomas Gunn may decide to corner the 1915 market. I think there are a fair few of us WW1 enthusiasts out there, so hopefully someone somewhere is listening or reading!
