Haven't posted a poll for a while as I know they are not always that popular but I was interested to find out what Great War action/campaign would be most well received by those of us that hold the Great War dear and perhaps entice a few on the periphery. Of course the list of choices is not exhaustive and I'm aware that sometimes the uniforms worn throughout the Western Front campaigns changed little but there were the odd differences. Nevertheless, here is the list,

No offense here, but the choices are way too British Empire oriented. No US involvement mentioned at all and the French, who bore the largest part of the fighting on the Western Front, are only mentioned at Verdun and I am assuming this is the 1916 battle. Still, Verdun is my favorite Great War topic, so that was my choice. -- Al

Shame the poll only allows one choice as I would have picked a few more of the battles eg: Gallipoli, Bullecourt, Passchendaele and Messines, namely any or all that involved the A.I.F.
Wayne.

The main reason I asked the question is that I am sure there will be a number of ranges coming up but what I wouldn't want to see is an action/campaign be given cursory attention before moving on to the next one. I would like to see manufacturers commit to one maybe two aspects of the war and stick with it during the centenary period.

Personally, I wouldn't want to end up with 10 figures from Gallipoli, 10 from Verdun, 10 from Vimy etc. I don't think that's the way to go. The K&C Cambrai figures and tank are a case in point. Wonderful range but I was left wanting much more. You only have to look at the success of the ALH to see that committing fully pays dividends.

I could have quite happily voted for every single option as WW1 is a lifelong interest of mine, but in the end opted for Passchendaele.

While we are talking WW1, I've been looking for a WW1 Glossy producer to sit alongside my Toy Army Workshop collection, there were a few producers of these in London at the weekend but for the life of me their names escape me, I don't suppose any of you guys can put forward names of companies for WW1 Glossy can you?

Any help gratefully received.

You don't have to tell me who you are but can I ask who voted for Vimy?

I voted for Vimy. As a Canadian Vimy is important to me as it is one of our nation's defining moments.

I also voted for Vimy , another Canadian . Would be proud to display a recreation of the Battle

Try Yeomanry or Tommy Atkins. Trooper

You left off my favorite WWI campaign: the air war.

I left that one off because JJD has nailed this aspect of the war. There is no end in sight for his range and long may that continue. As I said in the OP, it was not an exhaustive list but I was just canvasing for something new.

The big one I probably missed out was tanks. I get the feeling this is coming already though.

I thought that is why you included Flers-Courcelette 1916, where tanks were introduced. -- Al

Mine too, Louis. If we take the poll's choices, it's Verdun, no contest. Add the Air War and it becomes a race with the Air War winning by a nose. Combine the two and I have it all, especially with the Lafayette Escadrille's involvement over Verdun. For me, it doesn't get any more interesting than that. :wink2::smile2: -- Al

Hi lancer

I did, as well as Bullecourt and 2nd Gaza. The Aussies swore never to go into battle again with tank support after Bullecourt. Of course they did eventually but they kept true to their word for a prolonged period during the war.

What I meant was, much like aeroplanes with Knights of the Skies, a series featuring only tanks. There are any number of famous tanks, none moreso than 'Fray Bentos'.

Thank you kind Sir, sorry we missed you last week Alan but hope to catch you in March{bravo}}

Rob

I got tied up with a customer and by the time I got away you lot had all wented. I tried the Hilton, You were right about the barmaids, on a scale of 1-10 they were a definite 15 and absolutely enthralled by the reminiscences of a grizzled old Treefrogger so the afternoon wasn't a complete waste. Will make a more determined effort to report properley in March. Trooper

Thanks, I understand now. :smile2: -- Al
