I don't see many people on here collecting the K&C Ancient Greek Hoplites...does anybody else collect them...

I have had them for several months now...so...while waiting for their Persian adversaries...I made a small diorama to display them...it's 36"x21"...and I built and stained a wooden frame and bottom to hold it...

I found the Column Ruins piece at Pet Smart...it's actually an aquarium decor piece...very solid...very heavy...some type of ceramic with a resin base...it had plastic tubing running all through the base that the air bubbles would come out of...I removed them and patched the air release holes in the interior floor of the ruins...then repainted the entire thing because I didn't like the algae all over the columns...

while I liked the resin rock formation (see original piece) that it sits on...it didn't seem practical that there was no entranceway to the structure...so I cut it off and removed it...

then I built a step section and a pathway...I used Hirst Art's bricks and painted them the same color as the ruins...to try and match it...I hand carved some "rubble stones" to lay around the exterior of the ruins...

I mounted the Column ruins on top of a Styrofoam hill and textured the terrain...that's it...

I especially like the trees behind the ruins...they seem to remind me of a Mediterranean foliage...

anyway...here are some pictures...

thank you guys for the nice comments...

I saw it too at the Texas show...that guy was asking about $79 for it...

but no...somebody showed them to me a long time ago on the Conte website...

I found mine on sale at Pet Smart for about $35...

I originally bought it for my Romans and Barbarians...and will do some pictures with them also in the future...

Sorry to hear that your Greco Roman column ruined the diorama! Just kidding . . . nice job!

Mike

A very nice looking dio piece that you have put together ... matches the equally good looking ancient warriors from K&C.
Looking forward to more Greeks and then the Persians.

Thank you for sharing.

fantastic display, and still a lot of space for the upcoming figures...^&grin

Brilliant as always. Only wish I had the patience you exhibit doing your groundwork and the vegetation. The attention to small details really allows the scence to tell a story.

I know that many members believe they need to have art majors, real carpentry skills, or the most complete tool/craft kit ever created to build anything toy soldier related. But as Mike and others have shown, if you look at stores not related to crafts or art, there are items everywhere that are available for any use, limited only by our lack of open minds and vivid imaginations. For my ships, I have used large gold belt links for windows, grommets for portholes, sewing thread spools with wood craft shapes to make paddle wheels. I found a plastic bucket for my ironclad wheel housing as well as a 4" round nylon plumbing fitting with vent cover for my gun turret. I could not form any of these from scratch but found it easy enough to convert what I could buy ready made. Others have used doll house roof shingles and accessories for buildings, dios, and tank stowage. Nice job, Michael, great use of your creative mind and imagination. {sm4}Michael
