Grognard's New Painting Project! (1 Viewer)

Nice work indeed !!!

I love the way you painted the flooring, it looks So realistic, especially when the figures is painted matte, and the floor looking like its been waxed :)
Well Done !!

John

Thanks John. Yes, it took me a few trials with different products to get the right finish I was looking for. I ended up using Dullcote Lacquer for the floor combined with black BIC permanent markers on the board seams that I purposely let bleed on the boards themselves to get the weathering and waxy finish.

Here is my latest painting creation: 90 mm Russian Cossack of the Guard Officer (1804 - 1812) from Le Cimier catalog - Sculpt from Charles Conrad. So yes, that's my second non-French soldier after the Brit one below on that very thread. Hope you like it!

I don't think I had enough blue in the colour for the trousers, but I got a couple of different descriptions for the colour and chose a grey.

Here is my latest painting release: Général Count François Louis Fournier-Sarlovèze!

This fine 90 mm figure is from Pegaso Models, sculptor: Victor Konnov. This one is inspired from the famous painting by Antoine-Jean Gros. To me this is one of the most beautiful figure around due to the stunning uniform and character's posture! I am happy with the result (was not easy with all those lace details).

Fournier-Sarlovèze was one of Napoléon's best cavalry commanders with Lasalle (they were good friends) and the only one on record who destroyed 3 British squares at the battle of Fuentes de Oñoro. Unfortunately for him despite being a formidable soldier, he never got along very well with Napoléon which affected his career and rank since in spite of an incredible track record on many battlefields, he only became General of Division and Count in 1812 but was demoted again in 1813 by Napoleon following a dispute…He is one of the 2 (the other one was Dupont) who inspired Ridley Scott's movie: The Duellists...Hope you like it!

Here is fresh from my brushes my latest piece: Polish Lancer Trooper (1810-1812) – 90mm from Almond Sculptures, Ref AS/A4. Another favorite of mine in the Napoleonic Imperial Guard! This one was much easier than Général Fournier-Sarlovèze I did below in that thread...As usual before and after pics below!

Here is my latest 90mm production: Subaltern Officer, 85[SUP]th[/SUP] (Buck Volunteers) Light Infantry – Peninsula War 1813 – Ref AB3 from Bonapartes Co (UK). This is the second British soldier I have done. If you have Mike Chappell's Wellington Peninsula Regiments (2) book from Osprey, it appears on page F in the illustration section. I really like the posture and the overall extremely detailed sculpt. This is also my first combo resin/metal figure that I painted and I am pretty happy with the result. Hope you enjoy it too!
Before and after pics below:

Please see below for my latest production: Officer of the Chasseur of the Imperial Guard - 90mm, Ref 90/021 from White Models in Italy. The sculpt is from Stefano Borin. Pics before and after as usual!

Here is my latest production: Mamluk Officer 1805 – This beautiful 90mm figure is from Pegaso Models, Ref 90-055. Sculpt from MikePolski. As some of you may know Napoleonic Mamluks are among my favorite Napoleonic soldiers for their colorful oriental uniforms and undaunted courage in battles. I got a little bit behind on this one due to some recent biz travel to Europe in April (Ireland and France) with unfortunately no time to visit any TS stores. But I will catch up next month in Spain and in France again in July. Anyway, hope you like it! Pics before and after below.

Hi all, I am back after a long hiatus due to lots of work & travels, buying and remodeling a second house, kids in college stuff, etc. :rolleyes2: Anyway, I was finally able to go back to my brushes and produce a new addition to my 90mm Nap collection with this beautiful figure of Général de Division Antoine-Charles-Louis, Comte de Lasalle; one of the best cavalry commanders of Napoléon, unfortunately dead too soon at Wagram. The sculpt is from Mike French Models - Tiny Troopers. I really like the pose and the result! Hope you like them too! Here are a few pics from start to finish...

I love your work, the 90mm figures give so much more detail that 54mm especially with Hussar uniforms.

Here is my painting of a set showing the death of the General at Wagram in 1809, figures by Ratnik in Russia.

Thanks! I agree on the 90mm scale point. This is why I only paint that scale :smile2: Nice Wagram vignette!

Happy New Year everyone! This is my latest production: Russian Chevalier- Garde Trumpet Major - full dress (1805) – 90mm - Sculpt by Alan Ball. I really like the posture. The Chevalier-Garde regiment was the elite of the Russian heavy cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars. They were composed of young men of the Russian nobility. As everyone knowns, they got heavily decimated at Austerlitz by the Chasseurs à Cheval, Mamelukes and Grenadiers à Cheval. As usual: pics from beginning to end. Enjoy!

Hi Grognard,

That's quite a collection of excellent models that you are building up!

Just a suggestion - these are obviously military miniatures and some quite hefty to pick up. Why not mount them on nice wooden bases for easier handling?

Thanks Victor for the nice comments! Actually this one is a resin kit so it's pretty light. Others I did are indeed metal but the problem with the wooden base is space in my curio cabinet both in height and footprint. I have a few on wooden base though but again I start to be limited with space since all the ones I paint are 90mm...and I haven't started the mounted ones I have in storage :wink2:

Nice work, love the pose too, maybe I can find some like this in 54mm ??

Well Done,

John

Thanks John! I had done some research like I always do in my books, on the Web, etc. to make sure that I get everything right (this is also the part I enjoyed doing) before painting and the only 54mm version I found was from HM Durandal: http://www.histomin.com/linedur/pgdurnap.htm (Please look at the bottom of that page).

Hi all,

Happy New Year and hope everyone is doing fine!

I finally found the time after a tumultuous year to complete the following figurine that I started pre-COVID time!

This one is an Empress Dragoon Officer (1807) with his cat (below the stool). This nice 90mm vignette is from Mike French Models - Tiny Troopers. Hope you like it!

Hi everyone!

Here is my latest production: Trumpeter - Red Lancers of the Guard, Full Dress - 1813-1814. This nice 90mm kit is from Pegaso Models. Sculptor is Viktor Konnov. This was a fun one to paint! Enjoy!

Hi, here is my latest project: Italian Dragoon Sapper - 90mm, sculpt from Alan Ball (from bonapartesmilitarymodels). I thought a little trip to Italy would be nice with this one :).

Pics from beginning to final result as usual. Enjoy!
