Dear All

Welcome to our April Warbirds newsletter with 3 new aircraft to hopefully tempt you with this month. All our aircraft are hand carved Mahogany and take around 60 hours to manufacture, each comes with a full interior and all are limited editions. All our aircraft can be paid for upfront or 3-6 payments spread over a number of months if this suits instead, please drop us an email to welcome@tomgunn.co.uk for details. All our aircraft will eventually appear on our website and can be bought this way or by emailing us as above to reserve your model.

WOW 126; The Nieuport 11 ‘Bebe’ was a French WW1 single seat fighter aircraft designed by Gustav Delage, it was an improved version of the two seat Nieuport 10. The Sesquiplane design, in which the lower wing is less than half the area of the upper, provided excellent maneuverability and was powered initially by a LeRhone 9C rotary engine. With its forward firing Lewis gun mounted atop, the ‘Bebe’ became the scourge of the Fokker Eindeckers, driving them from the skies of the Western Front in early 1916. At the battle of Verdun in February 1916, eleven Escadrilles of Nieuport 11’s provided superior French aerial support against the Germans, every French ace of WW1 flew the Nieuport 11 until it was replaced by the Nieuport 17. Several thousand Nieuport 11’s were built by the French with another 500 Nieuports being manufactured under license in Italy, some 200 also being manufactured in Russia where they flew as late as 1922. Our ‘Bebe’ is one flown by French Pilot Count de Plandes Sieyes de Veynes of Escadrille 26 and comes in an attractive two tone green camouflage scheme. Limited to a grand total of 5 in number and priced at $475 which includes free postage worldwide and ‘The Poet’ figure as per the photos. UK/EU price is £330

WOW 127; The Sopwith Strutter was a WW1 British deigned two seat multi role biplane utilised by the RAF, American, Belgian and French Air forces. Post war it was operated by several air forces including the Japanese in their 1918 Siberian campaign. It was significant in its development in that it was the first British two seat ‘tractor’ fighter and also the first to enter service with a front firing synchronised machine gun. It was given the name 1½ Strutter because of the long and short cabane struts that supported the top wing. The Strutter was flown by several aces including Raymond Collishaw VC and several thousand aircraft were built during its service career. The Strutter was over 25ft long with a wingspan exceeding 33ft, it normally carried a crew of 2 and had a maximum speed of 100 MPH. This new version of the Strutter in French Air Service comes in a striking light cream colour with the unit emblem of a frog in a ring on the fuselage. This version is limited to 10 pieces worldwide and is priced at $499 which includes free postage worldwide and GW066 ‘The Artist’ figure as per the photos. UK/EU price is £350

WOW 133 The Horten Ho 229 was a German prototype fighter designed by the Reimar and Walter Horten during the closing stages of WW2. It was the first flying wing jet fighter and its design has been emulated in a variety of post war fighters notably in the USA. The design was a response to Herman Goring’s request for a bomber capable of meeting the 3 x 1000 requirement; namely to be able to travel 1000 Kilometres, carrying 1000 Kilos of bombs at 1000 KMH. A glider prototype was built and flown, 2 more prototypes were built with one of them undertaking several test flights before crashing and killing the test pilot. The 3rd prototype was not fully completed and captured by US forces at the end of the war, it now rests in the Smithsonian Museum under waiting restoration. Our version is in a striking mottled 2 tone mottled version suitable for Desert operations, is limited to 7 pieces worldwide and is priced at $599/£440 which includes free postage worldwide and FJ029 military policeman as per the photos.

The new figures will be out 4th May (I hope!) and will feature the Persians to battle our Spartans as well as some top ups of SPA001. The Roman War Elephant should be out in June but please remember we are releasing this set over a 3 month period with an initial total of 150 being produced.

Best wishes The Gunn Team

Really like the new WW1 aircraft here. The 1 1/2 Strutter in French colors is very nice. My favorite is the Nieuport 11. It has always been my favorite WW1 aircraft and TGM has really done it justice. Some 5 people are going to be very happy with this iconic aircraft. Well done, TGM. :salute:: -- Al

I often wonder whether there is a collector out there with every one of TG's wooden aircraft. It would be one impressive collection.

Check out NZGary, his collection looks fantastic.

I have 9 acft and two more on order. All WWI, and that's only a fraction of the releases. Wish I had the space and $ for more. Chris

That is impressive, Chris. TGM just makes gorgeous aircraft and I'm glad you have been able to acquire so many of them. Well done, sir!:salute:: -- Al

I couldn't agree more. Tgm wooden aircraft are as amazing as expensive. I've got only one, as you can see below, but I'm going to sort out my home and buy some more again.

Best regards

Enrico

Maybe you have just the one, but you picked an outstanding one to have. Hard to pick a better example of an ace than Baracca and his Spad VII. NIce get.:salute:: -- Al

I am fortunate to have around 40 TG aircraft with a Lancaster on order. I have slowed down somewhat over the last 12 months as kids at Uni exhaust some of the hobby funds and the wife and I recently took time out to tour South America. I am sure there are others out there with a more impressive collection.

That's a lot of beautiful aircraft, of any make, especially considering the large scale and space required for display. The Lancaster must be huge. Congrats on the extent of your NZAF collection. :salute:: -- Al

40 is impressive. I have around 20 K & C wooden aircraft and they take up a lot of room.
