Dear All
Welcome to our WW1 Warbirds newsletter for March 2017 and features 2 unusual
aircraft not released before. All our 1/30 scale wooden warbirds are hand
carved in Mahogany and take around 60 hours to manufacture, each one of
course comes with a detailed interior and metal machine guns. Although not a
cheap addition to anybody’s collection these beautiful models can be paid
for over 3 to 6 months, on an interest free instalment option if required.
Please drop me an email if this option appeals to you or you would like to
just simply buy a model from us! All details of these aircraft will appear
on our website www.tomgunn.co.uk later on today.

Our first offering WOW122 is a limited 10 piece edition of the Sopwith Pup
but this time fitted with Le Prieur anti Zeppelin rockets! The Sopwith Pup
was a single seat biplane fighter designed by the Sopwith Aviation Company,
it entered service in 1916 but was eventually replaced by the end of 1917
(in frontline service) with more advanced aircraft. The Pup was considered
by its pilots a dream to fly and could out fly most German aircraft of the
period when it was introduced. It was notably the first aircraft in the
world to land on a moving ship, HMS Furious by a Lt Dunning. To counter the
Zeppelin and observation balloon threat, some Allied aircraft were fitted
with Le Prieur rockets.
This was essentially a cardboard tube filled with 200 grams of gun powder
with a wooden conical head and a triangular blade inserted across the rear
to aid stability. The rockets were fitted to a sectioned wooden stick about
1.5 metres long and these were attached to the aircraft struts. Due to fears
of a fire hazard on board an actual aircraft, initial tests were carried out
by fitting a wing from a Voisin aircraft to a Pictet automobile, which was
one of the few cars of the time that could travel at more than 120 KMH. The
tests were successful and the rockets were immediately fitted to various
Allied aircraft. The rockets were controlled by a switch fitted in the
cockpit and were all fired simultaneously 100-150 metres from the target.
Several successes were scored against observation balloons but none against
Zeppelins. Le Prieur rockets were eventually withdrawn from service with the
introduction of Tracer and Incendiary rounds. Our limited edition 1/30 scale
model is priced at $499 which includes free shipping worldwide, UK and EU
please contact us directly for a £ price quote as shipping costs will be
different. The Pup is available now for immediate delivery and comes with
GW064B Figure as per the attached photos.

Our second model WOW124 is a Friedrichshafen FF.33, a 2 seater seaplane
operated by several air forces including the Kaiserliche Marine. Over 300
were built by Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen with the initial production models
being fitted with a Mercedes D.11 engine, this was soon replaced by the more
powerful Benz B.111 inline engine. The FF.33 could be carried on board a
ship and one accompanied the raider ‘Wolf’ which took part in a 451 day epic
mission under the command of Captain Karl Nerger. The 'Wolf' sank 35
merchant ships and 2 warships before returning home to a victorious welcome
in Germany. The FF.33 had a wingspan of 54 feet and was over 33 feet long,
had a rear firing machine gun and could carry a small bomb load.
We have made 10 models of the FF.33 in a striking cream coloured early war
scheme, priced at $599 including free postage worldwide, also comes with
free pilot figure GW070B as per the photos.
UK and EU please contact us directly for a £ price quote as shipping costs
will be lower than the USA and rest of the world as you are a little bit
closer to us!

For those of you waiting for our figure release this month, there has been a
delay due to Chinese new Year and although some of the stock has arrived, we
have decided to delay the release until the 4th of April in order to get
back on track to our normal monthly release date. Gives all you Roman and
Spartan collectors a wee rest!
Our Roman war elephant will be on display in London on the 25th March as
well as several new warbirds and hopefully examples of our Persian enemy for
the Spartans. If you are going to be in London please pop by the Maison
Militaire stand where we will have all the afore mentioned offerings on
display.

We hope you enjoy the new aeroplanes and we will have an all new Lozenge
pattern German fighter next month for you as well as a new version of the
Horten.

Best wishes The Gunn Team

I'm on order for the Friedrichshafen FF.33, could not resist such a unique model. Chris

2 more outstanding aircraft from TGM. The FF33 is really nice and a really neat choice for production. The Pup is a nice, attractive color scheme, but TGM have done a few Pups in the past. I think a Nieuport 11 in French colors with the rockets might have been the more interesting choice (to me, anyways). -- Al
