GWB-30 6-inch Howitzer & Crew (1 Viewer)

Here is a photo of my JJD Great War GWB-30, "BL 6-inch 26 cwt Howitzer" along with its Royal Garrison Artillery Crew and Accessory sets GWB-31 thru 36. One thing I really like about this gun is that John provided it with a full 10-man crew, something that most manufacturers don't do. I have an extensive collection of John's Great War sets including Knights of the Sky and Wheels Across the Desert as well as the infantry and artillery sets that he has produced. I have them all arranged on shelf displays in my basement office space and as such I do not really concentrate on dioramas. I have found that taking photos of them with a yard of either red or tan felt (JoAnn Fabrics) as a backdrop/drape really brings out the quality in these well done pieces.

When John was making this gun and the BL 60-Pounder Heavy Field Gun in 2013 he contacted me, knowing that I was an ex-gunner, and he wanted to know if I could help him source a definitive description of the gunners needed to man these guns as he was planning an Aussie crew.

I am a member of our local Artillery Historical Society and have access to a technical library which included official publications including 'training pams' for this sort of gun and found a 1926 Gun drill Manual for the 6 inch Howitzer. It stated that there should be 10 gunners, and I hoped that he could make them because other makers only have 4 gunner, if you are lucky, to man a gun.

John replied that he was to make a full 10 man un team, but not Aussie because they weren't equipped with these guns in WW1, so I recommended Royal Garrison Artillery. He decided they would be sold as individual or double figure sets, so that the collector can choose what they want. I can only applaud him in his decision and which that all makes followed his lead.

Great background story on the development of these sets John. Much appreciated. I also have the BL-60 pounder Heavy Gun with full crew and will share some photos of it soon.
