Happy Birthday mestell (1 Viewer)

Randy...Mike...

I'm a huge fan of Diana Krall and Tony Bennett...

I have both those CD's...and many more of each artist...

he is incomparable...
nobody cooler than Tony Bennett....
period!
nobody like him now days...
even Frank Sinatra said he had the best pipes in the business...

she is an amazing talent in herself...

next to Julie London...
nobody does a better copy of Cry Me a River...
still nowhere as good as Julie London herself...

if you're a Tony Bennett fan...
his best album ever is...
"Playing with My Friends"...
a must have if you're a fan of his...

an all star cast...
duets with Krall...
Stevie Wonder...
Sheryl Crow...
BB King...
Bonnie Raitt...
kd Lang...
Count Basie...
Billy Joel..."A New York State of Mind"...
Natalie Cole...etc...
and many more...

here's Julie London doing Cry Me a River...
old and grainy...
but she immortalized this song...
she was a knockout in her prime...

Thanks for the tip on the Bennett compilation
I have 15 DK CDs and her 3 concert DVDs Paris, Rio, and Montreal. All on Amazon now at rock bottom prices. She has some good videos on YouTube
My goal is to someday see a DK concert in person.:)

Thanks for the Birthday Wish Randy. I was aware of her album with Tony Bennett but haven't listened t any of its tracks . . . The other album is new to me. My wife is a big fan of both Dianne and Tony . . will have to look for these. About two months ago, my mother-in-law downsized her possessions and moved to a retirement community. She gave us a Kenwood turntable, a Pioneer receiver, and two Pioneer speakers. My wife and I have been enjoying our vinyl records from the 60's after being stored in our basement for almost 35 years and all but forgotten. Absolutely amazing how good the music sounds . . . so much more depth. Most digital remastered CD's just don't come close to sounding as good.

Mike

Did you know that:

Diana Krall's CDs are now simultaneously being issued on Vinyl as well as her earlier work.

See the array on Amazon. Prices are not bad.

Do you have this extended version of Wildflower? For now it seems to be only on DVD but the original Wildflower is also on Vinyl

I don't have any new Vinyl albums yet . . . Its amazing how much music that is available on CD's are being issued on vinyl as well. You have certainly put an idea into my head though . . . . DK on vinyl . . will have to get a few discs to listen to. My brother and sister-in-law have had the pleasure of seeing DK in two concerts . . . they are also big fans. I do have a DVD recording of one of her concerts (live at the Montreal Jazz Festival) . . . incredible . . .

On Saturday I ordered 5 vinyl record albums including DK's "Christmas Songs", "Love Is Here To Stay" w/Tony Bennett, and "Wallflowers". The other two were Nora Jones "Come Away With Me", and the Cowboy Junkies "Trinity Session" both of which have been long time favorites of mine. Two should be here today and the other three on Wednesday. Looking forward to them all . . . I'm really enjoying listening to and playing my vinyl records on a turntable . . .

Mike...

you're gonna love "Come Away With Me"...

sexiest song ever...

"I've Got To See You Again"...

written by her drummer for a female stripper he was in love with...
she re-worded it geared towards a male stripper...
it's a very sexy mysterious song...

also her rendition of Hank Williams "Cold Cold Heart" is awesome...

it's a "bedroom tape"...almost every track...

Totally agree . . . I've had the CD version for years and I also have it on my Amazon Music download list . . . . Fantastic album and one of my favorite . . . . Decided I wanted a vinyl copy to spin on my turntable . . . If you are not familiar with the Cowboy Junlies I would highly recommend their "Trinity Session" album . .
:smile2: Mike

Mike...

I do like that slow version...very much...

but grew up with the punkish versions by Lou reed and Mott the Hoople....

I saw Norah in concert in Connecticut awhile back. She still had her original band :) I also like the Country albums she has done. She and Billie Joe did a whole album tribute to the Everly Brothers.

My big thrill was meeting Emmylou Harris at her concert in Toronto and having her autograph one of her albums. I actually included her in my Doctoral Dissertation at Syracuse University. My diss was on Oklahoma! & South Pacific and had a section about kids like me from the 50s having cowboy heroes. Thru a friend I was able to get a photo of Emmy as a very young Cowgirl. She was born in 1947 and 1945 for me. John Wayne was in my Diss. too since South Pacific included Marines and Oklahoma had Cowboys. Wayne played both types of roles.

Emmylou Harris is another one of my all time favorite female vocalists and of course the "Duke" is also a big fav. One of my favorite Emmylou collaborations is with Mark Knopfler (one of my favorite guitar players) titled "All the Roadrunning" . . . . I'll have to see if that one is available in vinyl. 4 out of the 5 albums were delivered to the door about 30 minutes ago. The only one missing is the Nora Jones album . . . that is scheduled for a Wednesday delivery. Now I get to enjoy an evening spinning and listening to some old favorites . . . .

Thank you each and every one of you for all the thoughtful wishes. In spite of the fact that I now have circled the sun 70 times, it was a great day. In a word, my birthday was SPOOKTACULAR! Here are a few pics of our house decorations . . .
:smile2: Mike

Mike;

Sorry I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday, in a timely manner...Hope you had a good one !

Really like your "All Hallows Eve" decorating.

We are getting some Winter weather up here now...Hopefully it will avoid you for a while.

Thank you very much for the thought and well wishes. I had a great BD . . . . Glad you liked the decorations . . . . not near as much as I used to do since I passed alot of my decorations onto my adult children for thier use and amusement. Having a birthday on Halloween always made me more "into the moment" and I have always been in the "spirit" decorating the house.

This is one of my favorite Diana Krall songs.
I find many of her songs perfect for starting the day in a good mood.
I actually use her music daily for my Mindfulness Exercises.
Like this example a number of her songs provide a calming effect for our hectic world.
Enjoy!

Thanks Randy. Great talent, nicely done. I can see why you like this song especially for your mindfulness exercises. Since we last chatted about DK I have added three of her albums to my 33rpm vinyl collection: "Christmas Songs", "Wallflower", and with Tony Bennett "Love Is Here To Stay". Did you happen to catch her performance during the CMA Country Christmas Show (12-22-2018)? She performed one song with Tony Bennett and also had a solo. Great show . . . even featured Lindsey Stirling, another one of my favorites . . . If I can find a video of the performance I will post it here.

Mike

Thanks for posting these. I loved all 3 of them. Sorry I missed the show.
Thanks for introducing me to the music of Lindsey Sterling. I will check out her albums on Amazon.
DK may have been on the CMA show since she has used T. Bone Burnett as a producer on her Glad Rag Doll album. Burnett has also worked with DK's
husband Elvis Costello.

Do you know the work of Natalie McMaster from Nova Scotia? She too often dances and fiddles at the same time. We have seen here in New Hampshire

Randy there's something about a fair haired lass that can play the violin and dance at the same time that just "trips my trigger". I have heard of Natalie McMaster but am not really familiar with her offerings. Very nice indeed. As far as Lindsey Stirling, I have one of her albums, "Warmer In The Winter (Delux Version)", and can readily recommend it to you. The delux version has 5 additional song on it than the regular album with the same name. Here is another Lindsey Stirling video that I really like . . . "Hallelujah". I think you would find this useful in your meditative exercise. By the way, "Hallelujah" is on her Warmer In The Winter delux version album.
