One of the things that I like about this hobby and in particular, this forum is the interaction that we collectors have with the actual manufacturers of the products. Whilst my collecting interests has limited my own experience to JJD, Thomas Gunn and K&C, the direct communication with those in control has been a real pleasure, particularly in this day of 'you take what you get' mass production.
Recently, Emilio from Kronprinz toy soldiers announced that he is seeking crowd funding to help build his business. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/kronprinz-toy-soldiers--2 I have a couple of his figures, although they are a little outside my collecting area, but I really like them. So, I thought that I'd jump on board and support his business as the entry point is what it would cost for a single figure anyway. Soon after I receive an email from Emilio asking me what figures I'd like to see made. As my main interest is French Indochina and to a lesser degree the Boxer Rebellion, I say French Foreign Legion troops from the late 19th Century. Next thing I know, he has sent me some pics of uniform and idea options.
Now I am realistic enough to know that my desire for figures from this place and time may well be a dream that is never achieved and that Emilio's first priority has to be his business and what the whole market place wants. But it does feel good to be asked and listened to, regardless of whether he is able to produce what I want or not.
As a footnote, it sounds like he may have something of interest to the LAH collectors lined up. Because Naps, ACW etc are not my thing, I didn't ask about them, but for those who are interested in those eras maybe check out what he is trying to do and throw your support behind one of the newer players. I think it may be good for us all in the long run.
cheers
