I purchased my first soldiers in mid December last year with the plan that it would be a small interest.

I have just bought a new cabinet so have placed the bulk of my collection of TS on my mantlepiece in readiness.
'
Note on the far right - some K&C Crimean figures which I was not going to buy - too expensive and the range was finishing.
At the centre back is the ALH which I was not going to buy because it was more cavalry and it was obviously an expanding range.
WW1 Germans front left were not on the list as some were already retiring and I did not want to play catch up again.
In the centre middle are the start of the Britains Zulus which I actually discouraged a fellow treefrogger from starting because in my words, 'where will it end'?
The Thomas Gunn Imperial Guard was also to be avoided because I did not want to mix collections, but there it is. It is soon to be joined by the 95th, while my two rocket crews are in another room with my 1914 French, the RHA, my WW1 tank and my NE diorama pieces.

It is like a drug!

Much to the chagrin of my wife, the world of toy soldiers is now the main decorating theme in our household. But she has held the advance on the bedroom and kitchen fronts. For now.^&grin -- Al

You know I think I was with you when you got most of those, doesn't take long to amass a Regiment, that's nearly a years worth.....looks cool under the Emperors painting..:)

I haven't started with vehicles myself yet - trying to hold out as long as I can! This one is a beauty though!

Be careful - my wife began a conversation saying that we should organise built in cabinets for TS as part of a renovation we are doing and finished by saying she had been invited to speak at a conference in Lapland. That's a long way from Brisbane!

Very nice collection Jack but i do hope you don't have a cat! {eek3}:rolleyes2:^&grin

I can attest to the “TS sickness” as the bug has gotten into my blood and there is little in medical science that can cure it …. Not that I would even try, of course.

It is very difficult to stick to a few ranges (or series) and a few manufacturers as they are all so different and wonderful, but reality does rear its ugly head and I have to pay the mortgage and old bills.

I have tried to convince the wife that living in a cold house in MAINE during winter months is healthy and a lot of fun. She told me that sounds wonderful so I can go live in a TENT whenever I want!!! {sm2}

Superb collection and wonderfully displayed. -- Larry

It can get out of hand . . . ask Carlos (Sentaapua) about how out of hand it got for a few collectors he visited in New York last week . . . :wink2:

Thanks for replying! I have just moved them into a new display cabinet and there does seem to be a lot of them. People say smoking and drinking are expensive habits - I think the reverse. The number of things I have bought on the basis of the 'I don't drink and I don't smoke' justification would fill a TS shop!

I have a real suspicion that what I consider getting out of hand might be quite different to the *****sment of the 'New York collectors'.

Regards from Brisbane

Yea I am worried too Jack, had no intention of getting Imperial China series, now I have them all, how did that happen? I sometimes feel I cannot trust my mind as I have no idea where it's leading me next, it is scary. Cheers, Robin.

Totally agree with your comments Larry, I haven't gotten to the stage of booking myself into TS rehab or living on a diet of vegemite sandwiches to support my TS habbit but the hobby is taking over a good portion of my life and budget! Not that im complaining though, it's a good addiction in my view...{sm3}

Jack, That mantle looks fantastic !!!

Jack, That mantle looks fantastic !!!

The fireplace helps me survive the bitterness of a Brisbane winter. Tonight was so cold at the TS shop that I wore a jumper (Sloppy Joe, Hoodie, tracksuit top, sweater...I am not sure what they call them in Texas). They call Queensland 'The Sunshine State' so the fireplace is essentially decorative.

Keep an eye out tomorrow for some photos of Brisbane Wayne's latest creation which I will post. Really spectacular!

So true Jack / Tom good indeed, but I have never heard of a TS addition getting you pulled over for DUI (Driving under the influence) or Liver disease or Lung Cancer. {sm4}

The cost of cigarettes in Maine is about $8.50 - $9.00. per pack. That is approximately one AWI Marching Fusilier every 4 packs. OR another way to look at it, if I were a two pack a day smoker (average in Maine) that works out to 730 packs a year, or costs that come out to between $6205 - $6570.

Wow, can you believe the number of Armies that I could bring home with a budget like that???? {sm3}

Also, after a year, my money spent on TSs has increased in value. What does an Alcoholic or smoker have after a year?

Of course drinking barrels full of “stubbies” and eating hundreds of “Paddlepops” to build dioramas is also a major problem in some areas of the world …. Or so I was told! :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
