In regards to boxes containing vehicles in the scale stated. That would be a good start.

Frank, This is great. Doesn't get any better than this. {bravo}}

I rarely post, but this thread has finally nailed the scale question.

As a scientist by trade, I am comfortable with things like absolute scale, or dividing by 30 or 32 to get an unbiased and precise number. However, as a TS collector I think the relative "Frank" unit is far more useful for assembling a diorama where things fit together, on a relative basis, rather than trying to use manufacturer scales that vary by design or interpretation. Having vehicles and figures from nearly all manufacturers of the WW2 era, I have been using this scale for some time - I just didn't know the units.:)

I'm all for the new 'Frank' measurement scale. It LOOKS right. -- Al

Tired of all the arguments over scale and what figures go with what vehicles? Frank and I have developed a revolutionary and easy to use tool to quickly decide if the figures and AFVs go together. All at one low, low price. Just let us know what AFV you wish to check, and we will send you a photo of Frank standing next to it. All your scale problems will be solved.

Terry,
Since it is a low low price you could start with the WWI German tank Mephisto. Only one in the world just happens to be in Brisbane !! Will understand if you time your visit for the next Brisbane gathering. If Frank cant make it we might be able to convince Chris "Shorty" McKenna to stand in for him. He might be 1.235 "Franks" but that will make it all the more fun for those with rulers, calipers and calculators etc.

Frank,
You unique "toy soldier" image has to be the TF image of the year. Very funny. Thought I would stay out of this rivetting thread but you made it fun. Could not understand the rest of it and too old to take up another language.

Brett

I'm standing directly beside the front hull plate so the distance and the angle are pretty close. Considering my height I think the image captures the comparison quite well. The front hull plate extends slightly above the actual top of the hull and tapers down at the sides so only the corners are representive of the height being discussed.

On the subject of height of a 1:30 figure vs. the Tiger I think height is only one of the factors. More important to me is overall bulk and this can't be easily measured. This leaves it to the collector to assess based on what they think "looks right". Obviously the 1800mm height of the Tiger hull provides a convenient benchmark to work from but ultimately the assessment is more subjective.

Frank

I have checked the photos again (below) and the dark stain in front of your right shoe in both photos suggests that you have not changed your position, merely turned towards the camera in the front-on photo. If so, that means you are still standing some way behind the front of the hull which would create a optical illusion known as 'Forced Perspective' that makes you appear smaller than you really are.

Will any maker be bringing out the 1/1 scale Frank figures soon?

Don't worry mate, I checked and the 1:1 scale Frank didn't look that compatible with some of the 1:1 scale vehicles. And the shade of the t-shirt is a bit dark compared with real t-shirts. Obviously, IMHO.

It's my understanding that if you took the real Frank out to dinner you got a "free" Frank figure, not that there's anything wrong with that. :p I wouldn't want one anyway, there's way too much mud on his sneakers and those black outlines around his pockets drive me crazy. :rolleyes2:

I only hope that some day the manufacturer of Frank figures will be able to please all of us collectors all the time. {bravo}}

"I only hope that some day the manufacturer of Frank figures will be able to please all of us collectors all the time."

Well clearly a number of makers should each bring out their own version of the Frank figure so that all collectors can be catered for.

As I said earlier on this thread, I started it for the new collectors confused about the size of a soldier figure in 1/30 scale. Sadly based on some of the comments here it seems a few members perceive my thread as some attack on 'their' product or collection and have decided to hijack the thread or at least muddy the waters with their form of comic comments.

Historical and comparison photos do have value but are open to interpretation as most people cannot assess their accuracy which is why I decided to contruct a simple method of measuring the overall size of a 'standard' sized soldier of 1.8m (5' 10"). I did not invite or expect any debate on the matter because there is nothing to discuss in such a simple matter. The fact is that some people are happy with various sized figures in their displays/collections and some are not. The same as some members collect Toy (usually glossy) Soldiers whilst others collect Military Miniatures. If you are happy with what you collect why bother attacking people that have different preferences to you ^&confuse
