Help identifying Manufacter ? (2 Viewers)

Hi Brad,

You might be correct the bases are a bit more beveled than I originally thought and the sculpts are a lot more detailed. So I am not sure where they were made.

The Hiriart sets you mention sound very interesting! I look forward to seeing them when you get them. Its odd but it seems that many of the German Allies and foes of WWII are ignored by nearly all of the hobby. I would love to see someone do a line of Hungarian Soldiers from WWII as well as other units that fought on the eastern front. Maybe someday down the road we'll suddenly see an intereste develop in some of the other guys who were in that War. Lord knows there are some great WWI offerings out there, even if a lot of them are long retired they still come up on ebay so you can find them. But thats a discussion for another thread.

Lets try and solve this mystery.

Dave

Brad & Dave ,

I am sorry that i dragged you into my little mystery , i tried for a long time to figure this out...That is why i reached out on this forum...It all started for me 18 years ago , when my ex brought them back from Hungary , I asked her where did you find these ? Did it have a manufacter name by it ? I got no productive answers back...18 years later i decided to share the burden...I don't know if i mentioned the size but they are smaller than K&C about 1/32 scale...I do appreciate you guys racking your brains over this...Maybe the mystery can be solved ?
Thanks again guys...Misc 589.jpg

Hi Again Jager,

The solving of mysteries here is one of the things I like best about the forum. We'll sort it out eventually! On a personal side I would like to find one of the Hungarians for my collection. Recently, I have collecting figures that are only going to be found over here to fill a shelf in my collection on European makers any era/type of figure. Sort of a vignette on the variety of things you can find in Europe. So needless to say I love working on little mysteries like this.

These remind me of Rose Castings, I have a set of Indian Engineers with these type of bases from Rose.

@Jager--No sweat! As Dave said, these mysteries are a lot of fun. Part of the fun of our hobby is the research, tracking down lesser-known or unknown pieces and finally ID'ing them.

One thing occurs to me, in the light of Tom's post--are there any markings on the undersides of the bases, and could you take some photos of the undersides, in any case? I'd like to have a look at them, whatever may be on them.

@Tom, I'd love to see your Indian Army engineers, too. I only knew about the 2 styles of bases for Rose that I mentioned before, so that's a new detail for my knowledge of Rose. Could you take a picture of one and post it, please?

Prost!

Brad ,

There are no markings on the bottom of the bases , just unpainted metal...but i will take pictures of the bottoms of these bases & post them within the next 24 hours...
Thanks,

Joe

Thanks, Joe! That might help me rule out Monarch (now that I brought him up in the first place :D ), because I think Monarchs are marked. I'll look at my grenadiers when I get home. They're queued up on the bench, awaiting their turn.

Prost!

Hi Jager,

That photo actually helped a bit. I was thinking about this last night and started to wonder if they were originally produced in a country other than Hungary and I hit upon Russia. I was in Europe about the time your x picked these up and I remember seeing a lot of figures coming out of the east that were in all sizes and types. I picked up a few of them in Prague and elsewhere and I have some figures from Russia, one or two were still marked USSR which was really why I bought them but they are in storage right now. I also know that a few of them have square bases but since they are in the states and I am here in Germany I cant pull them out to look them over. So I thought I would dig around on ebay and I found a guy selling a variety of figures from Russia and he has one that has the same base. At least it looks the same to me. Take a look at the photos and see what you think. Only thing is he has no idea of who made them. So we still need to do some digging but I think we may be closer to the goal.

Thanks for the photo, Jager, and Dave, that's a very good point. I have one or two figures from the old Soviet Union, too, that I picked up in around 1990 in flea markets here. They're painted in matte finish to medium toy soldier standards, about the same quality as King-White/Reeves. I'll have to dig them out and compare.

Prost!

Brad & Dave ,

I got to say that would really make alot of sense , them being made in the USSR...Dave , that picture you posted does appear to have characteristics of the figures i have...
