Many thanks.....The machine gun on top did look American to me..just could not place the tank.

Early M3 Stuart it is. You can paint it either US or Japanese as the latter used captured tanks from the fall of Bataan on April 1942 and later deployed to Japanese garrisons around the South Pacific islands.

As mentioned, it's an M3 light tank. These tanks were used by the US Army early in the Pacific (including the fall of the Phillipines), by the USMC on Guadalcanal, by the Austrailians in New Guniea, by the British in North Africa and by the US Army in North Africa as well as by training units in the USA. Add captured US M3s used by the Japanese and by the Africa Korps and you have quite a few choices in painting and marking this tank.

The British used them in Normandy with the turret removed for rec work

Funny, I was watching a documentary on the Military Channel a day or so ago, based on the N Africa war, and which tank should turn up on an archive clip there, but 'Tiger 16'. I've got this Figarti piece but always assumed it was for the Pacific theatre.
