Does anyone have knowledge of a company called Red Box? I once saw sets of red-coated kilted soldiers at New Jersey show many years ago and dealer said it was a UK company, Red Box. One unique figure had a kilted bugler blowing the charge.

I just know that they are not in business any longer.....
They did have an extensive range of Egypt and Sudan.....British Camel Corp., camp scenes and work parties.
From my collection I see that the bases have green felt on the bottoms.

Hi There,

I believe the company went away in around 2000. They made some nice 54mm figures that went well with WBritains figures. There is a company now that goes by the Name Red Box but they seem to be a plastics company and I dont think they are related. The only person who I can think of here that may know for sure would be the Baron, he has a lot of knowledge on past makers.

Thanks for the compliment, Dave!

The name doesn't ring a bell, but I can check my resources and see. If they were in business in the Nineties, I may find something in my old Armchair General auction catalogs. I don't recall the name from O'Brien's "Collecting Toy Soldiers". He had a chapter at the end of the book, listing "newer makers", including our favorites who are long-established today, like King & Country, but also some others who came and went. I'll see what I can find, when I get home tonight.

Prost!

Googled RedBox Toy Soldiers and found a web page with pics and list of toy soldiers produced. Started in 1990 and ceased production in late 90s due to health issues of producer. web page not dated but author hints of restarting production., evidently red Box had nearly 450 sets

Yeah, I found nothing in my resources, any books or catalogs.

My own web search returned a lot of pages for a contemporary maker called Red Box, in the Ukraine, a maker of 1/72 plastic figures, but also returned some other pages:

This one, at Bill Armentrout's old page:

http://theminiaturespage.com/man/redbox/

but you have to brush away the e-cobwebs, it's been so long since it was updated.

And this catalog page, at Binns Road:

http://www.binnsroad.co.uk/railways/redbox/index.html

That one shows a figure of a station master.

The next phase of searching will have to be going through back issues of "Toy Soldier & Model Figure" and "Old Toy Soldier", to see if there were ever any articles.

Prost!

There's another old thread on this Company - look back to 2008. Looks like it has come around again. jb

Ach, so!

Well, I'll leave it to our new member to do the search. Privilege of being an upperclassman, let the freshmen do the lifting ;)

Prost!

They were based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. A part time business as the owner was actually a lecturer at Sheffield University. If memory serves me when he retired they closed up and moved to Spain. I made some stuff for them at about the same time as I was making the H.M of Great Britain figures.
