Hi forummembers,

We bought 2 toy soldiers a while ago,
We have been searching for information Aboutaleb these two.
In “the collector’s guide to identifying buying and enjoying toy soldiers” from Norman Joplin we found Some information About the nazi leader,... it seems to be produced by Charles Hall of Edinburgh. Does someone know more about this producer and age.
We don’t know anything about this other figure.
The figures ar 5,5-6cm tall

Who can tell us more about these figure

Thanks in advance
Elvis and his son Thibo

Hi, Elvis, welcome to the forum!

Yeah, when I saw the Hitler figure, I thought of Charles Hall, too. Though, I did wonder if the figure was originally painted by Hall, or if it was a casting that someone else painted.

Hall was from Edinburgh, and he started in 1977. He's considered one of the "newer makers", the toy soldier makers who started up in the 70s and later, after the end of the classic toy soldier years. He issued figures as single pieces, and collectors could combine them as they wanted to make sets. By 1992, he had closed his business and the molds were sold.

Hall's limited production makes Hall's figures relatively rare. I don't know how many Hall collectors there are, but his figures are to be prized in any collection.

I mentioned that someone else might have painted a casting, because earlier this year, or maybe late last year, there was a member of a Facebook toy soldier group, who posted photos there of Hall castings he had acquired and was going to paint. So it's possible that yours might have been painted by Charles or his brother William, or that they were acquired as castings and painted by a collector. I haven't seen enough Halls to be able to tell.

Norman Joplin is a member of this forum, and he pops in occasionally. He'd be better able to identify them, I think.

Prost!
Brad

A post-script, to the mods-maybe we should move this thread into the glossy toy soldier section?

Also, if there are any markings under the bases, would you please post photos of them? Thanks!

Prost!
Brad

Hi,
These may well be Hall Castings, but they were not painted by Charles Hall. They are missing the trademark "White around the Eyes" that he did on single figures.
