Help, I have a big problem ,I desperately need some new or extra space . My hobby room is getting filled up with models, figures, vehicles,boxes, painting tools and other stuff. No more space in the display cabinets ( and there are more in my bedroom and also downstairs in the living room) no more space in or on top of my storage cupboards, no more room on my working desk. The space underneath is also getting filled up, just enough room left for my feet.And now I also started stacking my DVD rack full of TS's and tanks. My wife says that, apart from her kitchen, there is no room in the house left where there are no Toy soldiers or dioramas or other hobby stuff of mine......
A few pictures to show what my problem really looks like. Can anyone come up with a solution ?

Have been in the same boat for a long time Guy. Have been known to carry stuff in the car boot until I have thought of a new spot. My wife has banned me from using up all storage areas in the house, so I gave using the storage room, my son's room and various cupboards throughout the house and brought it all back to my office room. As a result I can barely turn around as I have been forced to use most of the floor space as well. I have had off site storage, but gave it up after several years as it was costing over $100 month and I rarely visited the facility, which meant hardly worth keeping them if i was never using them. I have some gear stored at my mum's house which at least is cost free. I have had heaps of clear plastic large containers which you can label and stack on top of each other, which helps. I have sold a few pieces and put a stop on several series, but that said, there is a heaps of stuff arriving all the time, scary. Some stuff is out in the tin shed which I know the heat & cold would not be good, but no choice, the stuff is just too big, mainly talking about my diorama's pieces. Other than building a structure properly insulated, which would cost heaps, I have no real answer, so I will be following the comments on this thread. Robin.
 
Nice pics. Take over the loft that is what seems to be the way forward. I would also bin all those DVD boxes. I have thousands of DVD's and have them in the cases with plastic protector covers. It takes too much room to have them lined like you have

Buy a bigger house mate, it's the only answer.....or move to Australia we have plenty of room. :wink2:{sm4}

Well I'm going to build a conservatory for the kids and then get my room back :rolleyes2: well that the plan
 
What I did and am still doing 2 years later is selecting the pieces I really want and the rest goes. Instead of approaching it from "what can I get rid of" the approach is from "what do I keep" I started with Tiger tanks. Put them all in a row and decided which ones to keep and have disposed of the rest even though they were good models. My collection is 2/3 of what it was two years ago and still shrinking but I am also still slowly adding new pieces.

That's a good idea I think I will follow your advice.Still a lot of dios and figures and vehicles to get rid of though.
Will put some items in the "for sale" section once I have started my selection. This will also give me the possibility to buy some new items

And it all has to fit in 8 glass cabinets in one room. Each cabinet has 4 shelves 22" wide X 13" deep x 15" high and a wood top , a total of 40 surfaces. The empty boxes are stored out of the way on wood shelves in the basement

That what I done Terry but think once every item is made for the V2 think are stop collecting

Hi Guy,

The truly vexing aspect of situations like OURS is that we get to the point where we can't enjoy what we have, let alone any future acquisitions. Oddly enough, it's not $$$ that restrains me from buying more models. Rather, it's space. When I buy a new piece, I have to take into account not only the space to display it, but also storage for it's carton. Often times, the "solution" is to simply not unbox the item. Voila, I've cut my storage problem in half! Well, not really.:redface2: The result of all this is that less than half of my models are on display, the other half being crated-up. I also feel it something of a duty to note the one positive of my ongoing storage/display crisis. It is the one genuine constraint on my buying of collectibles. My wife is on me like white-onto-rice if/when my models start to stray outside my study or a large, adjoining closet. She's heard the story about the Stearman in my parents garage, and she KNOWS better. It's an ill wind that blows no one good.

Stop buying and enjoy what you have already...It' s what I do. Honestly, I have got all what I wanted, and all the new stuff I can see it is only a repetition of what I already have: I have the themes I like in the quantity I like. I can' t have a whole army so I just improve what I already have with more details and enjoy watching it. And I don' t want to spend too much money in toysoldiers.:)

I feel your pain...I desperately need to get organized myself...I have outgrown my shelves, cabinets and china hutch...I'm at the point where I need to sell off series to collect new ones...

I am working on this shelf for displaying figures right now...it's 4x2...with a shelf separating it into 2 spaces for dioramas...I'm pretty sure it can house 2 series and get them out of boxes and on display...

I'm pretty pleased with it so far...the seams are really tight...I took my time and did a pretty good job on it...

the stain was selected to match a sword display in my office...Sherwin Williams did a custom mix job on a sample I took to the store...

I have not polyurethaned it yet...it will look totally different when I do....really glossy...but I will start on that tomorrow...it should gloss up really nice and shiney...giving a good presentation of my figures...it has been an extremely fun and rewarding build so far...

I will probably build another one when I finish this one...

I am using the "Formula" criteria, anything I can't fit into a properly proportioned scene has to go.

Gigantic figures too small AFVs etc ....this gets tough a lot of nice looking stuff has departed ...I can't deal with size problems anymore so that made things easier

Guy you are a precise diorama builder, once you embrace the figure to AFV proportion issue a lot of stuff can go away.

As an example if you are a TGM fan their figures can only go with TCS AFVs and their AFVs can only go with FL figures....EVEYTHING ELSE GOES.....that can really cut the collection down......but you end up with a dinamite collection

yes... that's the answer... MOVE TO AUSTRALIA :salute:: problem solved... ^&grin everyone in australia is your mate... the beer is always cold and you can buy it anywhere... everybody goes fishing every other day... we have SO much space here that some people actually get lost going from there front door to their post box... really... :cool:
