Here is another photo from Bob's collection of set 1179 WORLD WAR I ITALIAN ALPINI MOUNTAIN INFANTRY with five extra men. Part of set 1264 WORLD WAR I ITALIAN ALPINI MOUNTAIN ARTILLERY is also visible on the far left.

Another photo from Bob's collection shows, left to right :

1291 ASCARI LIBICHE ITALIA, 1929 IX BATAGLIONE

1207 ANSALDO CV33 CARROARMATO TANKETT (desert version)

1291 ASCARI LIBICHE ITALIA, 1929 III BATAGLIONE

The standard 1291 catalog set is the III Bataglione with a red flag, sashes, and tassels. The IX Bataglione with blue & white flag, sashes, and tassels is a special set. Hiriart has also made specials sets of the VIII Bataglione and X Bataglione each with different color combination, red & blue and red & white, respectively. On my next Hiriart order, Bob, Brian, and I are having the I Bataglione (black) and the II Bataglione (blue) made for us. Each flag has the bataglione Roman numerial on it.

Although I studied Italian for five months in 1970 prior to my being assigned to the American Embassy in Rome, I can't spell in either Italian or English. The correct spelling is BATTAGLIONE. Also, I noticed that Bob had repainted some of the red fezzes on the III Battaglione to a maroon with some sort of silver cap badge.

In Toy Soldier language Mike, a picture says what a thousand words cannot!

Your pictures of Hiriart products are just fabulous - words are just a little bit of icing on the cake. Thanks again for posting them - please don't mind a bit of very gentle leg-pulling - Eye carn't spel neither --- johnnybach^&grin

Earlier in this thread, I had posted a stock catalog photo which was short one figure (i.e, it had eight rather than nine figures) from set 1291 CORPI TRUPPE COLONIALI LIBYA, 1929. Here is a photo of my complete set which specifically represents the III ASCARI BATTAGLIONE LIBICHE, 1929. Hiriart has also made non-catalog sets of these Ascari in the VIII, IX, and X BATTAGLIONE each of which has different colored flags, tassels, and shashes.

I just saw this non-catalog version of Hiriart set 1207 CV-33 ANSALDO CARROARMATO-DESERT VERSION on eBay today. Note how it differs from the other desert version of this set on post #42 from Bob Walker's collection. The figures in this version are wearing Cacciatori d'Africa uniforms from set number 1198. It appears that the twin machines guns are slightly bent.
