Alright fellas:

If you could sit down and talk to one (or a couple) historical figures at a neutral sight to simply talk about their campaigns, decisions, etc, who would it be and why? Certainly I think meeting our deceased relatives would be fantastic but this is aimed more at famous (or infamous if you wish), persons and is not meant to be a sitdown so I can punch you in the grill for being so incompetent <<cough, Louis, cough, cough >. Also, for this particular question, assume you can both speak the same language.

I'd like an afternoon with either Ike Eisenhower or George Washington.

I'd like to sit down and throw back a brew with Martin Luther!

Abraham Lincoln would be fascinating too.

Great topic, Chris, but do you mean a military/political figure, or any historical figure?

Prost!

Life Photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White

I had the opportunity to work with her papers and photographs at Syracuse University and was able to track down and interview the crew members of some of the B-17s she photographed in England and North Africa including Paul Tibbetts. In North Africa she flew on a bombing raid against a German airbase in Tunisia. She had an incredible career in the 1930s and 40s and knew no fear. The ship she was traveling on to North Africa was torpedoed and sunk by the Germans and she lived to tell about it. In Italy she was photographing Army nurses at the front when they came under fire. The U.S. government conveniently "lost" her negatives (all her war work had to go through the censors) because nurses were not supposed to be in combat situations. She was the last person to photograph Gandhi before he was assassinated. It is a shame that no toy soldier company has ever made a figure of her.

Contrary to my good friend Chris' insinuation, there are many more historical figures that I admire than I want to punch in the grill for incompetence. I'll pick four of my favorites: Teddy Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Bill Slim and Jim Gavin, all of whom I greatly admire.

Teddy Roosevelt because he was, for my money, the greatest American who ever lived, and the last honest American politician.

Winston Churchill because he was the greatest world political figure of the 20th Century, and without his iron will Hitler probably wins before the Russians and the United States enter the war.

Bill Slim because he was the best Allied general of WWII.

Jim Gavin because he was the best American general of WWII.

Hi Chris,

I like this question. My choice would be WWI era Tank Pioneers, British Officers such as Fuller, Elles, Martel, Swinton, and Americans such as Patton then an LTC, The men of the American Tank Corps especially the crews of two tanks from the Meuse Argonne Campaign, Lt Wood, Cpl Rogers, Sgt Snyder and Pvt Kelly amazingly brave men who fought a pair of Renaults until the tanks were disabled and all of them were wounded. Sgt Snyder was an amazing man who after recovering from a head wound received here went on and rejoined the Tanks and fought in WWII in Sicily, talk about long in the tooth my guess is he would have been in his 40s by the end of WWII. I think a talk about maneuver would be amazing and would be profoundly relevant to the issues facing the Armor Forces in the US Army today.

Darwin, Franklin, Lincoln, Jefferson, T.R., and Twain. I'd ask a few questions and sit back and listen.

Well Odin gave an eye for wisdom. I'd like to ask him how that turned out.

I'll see your C.S. Lewis and raise you J.R.R. Tolkien. I'd be worried that Washington would have me shown to the tradesman's entrance.

Lincoln,Churchill,Washington,TR Roosevelt, but first would be Jesus.

I would love to have a chat with (all at the same time) Napoleon, Jesus, Einstein, Richelieu, John Adams, Cochrane, and Teddy Roosevelt. Just a nice chat about life and stuff.
