Hitler ourside Bunker 20 April 1945 (7 Viewers)

I just secured K&C sets WS312 "Last Parade", WS313 "The Bunker", WS315 "Bunker Guards" & WS318 "Hitler Jungend" today from my local dealer. I had recently secured a Fieldstone mat made by J.G. Miniatures from Treefrog Treaures. I also added an old K&C set# LAH 068 Mark I tank that I no loner needed elsewhere. Also added to this display is the motion picture cameraman from K&C set# LAH107.

This display area is at 24 inches by 10 inches. I plan on adding some K&C WS182 sets representing the Volksturm marching with panzer faust weapons to be placed behind the Mark I tank.

This display represents the last time Hiltler was in public and filmed on his 56th and last birthday. He reviewed a number of Hitler youth soldiers and gave them Iron Crosses for thier valor in battle. Along side Hitler is Axman, the leader of the Hitler Youth organization. Hitler killed himself 10 days later on 30 April 1945 after he married Eva Braun the day before. Germany surrended on 7 May 1945.

Yes, I agree that that a backdrop showing bombed out Berlin in April 1945 would be a splendid idea. I shall look over my many WW2 era books for possible suitable backdrop photos for my "Last Days of Hitler in Berlin" in late April 1945 display.

Yes, K&C comes up with many unique sets relative to all kinds of historical monents. By chance I just very recently saw the brief film clip on the History Channel I think it was showing Hitler on 20 April 1945 giving metals to some of the Hitler youth soldiers, some of whom were "very" young indeed!

I have 9 dioramas or displays on WW2 mostly relative to Europe and this display makes for a noteworthy last display relative to the end of WW2 in Europe. I am in the process of adding some K&C WS182 sets of the Volkstrum to be marching behind or along side the Mark I tank.

When you make a diorama about Hitler's last days in Berlin, you better use another tank than the PzKpfwI.
The Panzerkampfwagen I/A served in the German army from September 39 until December 41 and was then replaced.-800 were built
PzKpfw I/B ,the chassis was a bit longer and had a better motor, new gearbox and new suspension.675 were built
Later in the war the I/A and B tanks that were still operational were transformed into Befehlswagen and munition trägers
PzKpfw I/C was produced between July 1942 and December 1942 , only 40 tanks were produced in total . All were destroyed in Normandy
PzKpfw I/D was just a prototype
PzKpfw I/F was produced between april and september 1942: only30 were produced and went to the 12th PZ Div in Russia and by August 1944 not one was left.
Turrets of PzKpfw I were dismantled and used on the Atlantic wall in defence positions.

However, I accept your comments and from "Guy" that it would be at least rather unlikely at best to see any Mark I tanks around in 1945. Perhaps I may delete the Mark I tank from my display with something else soon.

Gary, in those final chaotic days in Berlin anything could be there. The tank existed, so I would leave it in your diorama. If all else fails, perhaps you could place it behind the ventilation tower when you purchase that.^&grin. These are great sets, glad to see you have them. Robin.

Hi Gary,
I have viewed numerious Berlin 45' actual period photos and have not seen a Panzer I in any. Many pics of King Tigers in Berlin are easy to find,
although if I recall correctly they had only 5 King Tigers defending the Berlin Government quarter. Like Robin said they are some very nice sets to have !

Robin:

Thank you very much for your comments. The German Mark I tank if any were around in the Berlin area in April 1945 most likely would have been used in those last deparate days by the German forces defending Berlin. I just ordered the K&C set# WS 314 of the Bunker's ventilation tower to balance out the Bunker section. I'll see than how the Mark I tank may fit in or not at that time.

Yesterday I did some revising with another WW2 diorama with the end result being a diorama of the "FFI" (French forces of the Interior) K&C sets DD 089, DD 090 & DD 091 ambushing K&C set LAH 068, Mark I tank and #6 WS 096 marching regular German Army Infantrymen.

So the Mark I tank is back where where it was previously being part of sets representing a June 6th 1944 or so D-Day era event.

My "Fall of Berlin" German display area is at 10 inches x 24 inches. I do not have space for the huge Tiger tank in addition to the two structures of the Bunker entrance/exit & the ventilation tower. So in addition to all of the the K&C "Fall of Berlin" German foot figure sets I will also have #4 WS182 Volksturm marching, #8 WS 096 regular German Army Infantry marching and #1 WS 095, Regular German Army Officer marching. I'll post new photos when I get the last few items in the next week or so.

Mock ups used I believe for making a movie with rebuilt superstructures fitted with dummy guns to resemble a SHERMAN tank
