Just purchased two MIB British R.A. Mountain Gun Team sets (#OFS2G & #OFS20P) covering 1880 Victorian colonial period in AFGANISTAN. These sets are considered Very Rare. Does anyone have an old catalogue from HM of Great Britain to get an indication of number produced? Will be posting photos in my Album section in the near future of these and other known HM of GB military sets.OFS2G RA Mtn Battery Fire Full Set.jpgOFS2G RA Mtn Battery Gun Team.jpg

Very nice too. H&M made some great sets and they can still be found at shows. These were on sale at the London show back in March. Reasonable priced as well.

All of those pictured so far I made in about 1988, before we moved onto civilian sets. I'm not sure that the catalogue will tell you how many were made. Even if the maximum number is mentioned, they weren't made like modern mass produced figures, they were made in tens. I'd be surprised if more than eighty complete screw guns sets were made.

Hey Mr Tabony

You made a lovely job of these

Mark Hoffman has a magnificent collection of HM of Great Britain figures, including a huge set or compilation of sets depicting the famous "Saving the Guns at Maiwand." They are excellent figures, and I am especially impressed by the details of the guns and limbers (as I recall, you can actually remove the shells from the slots in the caissons). ^&cool

What wonderful sets. The artillery grouping is simply fantastic. Nice purchase. -- Al

I really like the shading on the mules - and have never seen that done before. Just love 'em - and will break one of my rules about buying a painted set if I ever see another like that! jb

Just so you know JB they were airbrushed.

I only made the figures for that set. I can't remember where Peter got the guns from.

Hi Martin,

I just posted an Album that shows the sets "Saving the Guns at Maiwand" that you just decribed. They surely are beautiful, but just spent my limit on the Mountain Gun Team sets. In addition, there is also a beautiful 4-set group called the "The Charge of the Scot Greys and Gordon Highlanders".

Al,

Anzoh of ANI Miniatures just posted quite a few HM of GB sets on eBay. This may be one of the few opportunities to acquire one of these great sets.

I wish you hadn't mentioned that Charles . . . I couldn't resist purchasing a beautiful set of mounted infantry.:wink2: Wish I had the money to grab that huge "Saving the Guns at Maiwand" 4 box set, or even that tremendous Charge of the Scotts Grays and Gordons set.:redface2:

I only purchased the add on set, containing a galloping Royal Artillery Sergeant Major, communications sergeant and three gunners. Believe me, if I could afford to lay out the $1,275 for the entire Maiwand or Scotts Gray sets I would, but that kind of money is not in the cards this month.

Martin,

The figures are just great; you did a fantastic casting and painting job. I noticed that the racks on each mule was designed for a specific gun part and accessory.

Who ever made mountain gun, also did a marvelous job, with the exception of the barrel leveling device which could not be assembled onto the gun (I assume due to difficult casting and damageability issues for the device's track portion if left unsupported).

I remember that the seperate parts of the carriage had to be pre assembled for the fireing version of the gun. At that time I hadn't started to make my own artillery pieces, now looking back there are things I would have made differently.:)
