Holy Schneike! $1,025 for a resin & metal Kubelwagon!! (1 Viewer)

The main issue is.... NOT... what "some-one" will pay for an item that determines it's worth.....THAT COMMENT is a "MYTH".......People make foolish decisions and "overpriced" purchases all the time..........If some jumps off a cliff and some folks applaud saying....."wow look at him fly"......Should others jump as well??....I think not.....As I said before, If you work hard for your money you will spend it wisely......There are many newer products being produced of better quality all the time by toy soldier manufacturers......no need to panic......Another item of "better quality" and "fair pricing" will come along. Best regards to all....

Oh now I completely understand. Its not a meeting of the minds between two individuals that determine value..........its what an uninvolved 3rd party decides.

Isn't that a wonderful concept.

Who made you the authority on the value of an item anyway?

Isn't life grand.:D

Wow Louis:
You and a few others must have a bloody fortune displayed in your Museum’s. Cool.

Speculations from those who have been collecting KC WWII since early 1990’s: Any idea how many more WWII KC Collectors they’re today compared to then?

BTW, I collect for the enjoyment of the piece at hand and not for future dollar value (I invest in other things to accomplish that). However, it is very nice if my collection increases in value over time. This obviously gives me the flexibility to sell it and get more wonderful toys in return. LOL

Carlos

Carlos, in 1993, if there were 100 collectors world wide who focused on collecting King & Country, it was a lot. For example, even though very few of the wood, metal and resin vehicles were made, they would sit on Toy Soldier Store shelves for years collecting dust in the 90's. I once purchased the following 5 K&C wood metal and resin vehicles together for a total price of $1,000: Tiger, Desert Quad, Gun & Limber, Desert Hanomag, and original Para Jeep. On another occasion, Andy, who couldn't get rid of the last 10 or so of the original, somewhat primative, wood Tigers and Panthers, offered them all to collector Doug Luna, who had bought a complete set, for a ridiculously low price . . . and Doug turned him down! Doug later told me that for what he sold the Sherman, Tiger and Panther for in 2004, had he taken Andy up on the offer he could have financed his collecting for the next ten years.

It wasn't until Andy (1) focused on producing matt WWII toy soldiers and (2) mass produced affordable polystone vehicles, that K&C took off. I think it is fair to say that the exponential expansion of the K&C collector base from 1999 to the present is the proximate cause of the high prices in the secondary market. The limited production numbers of the classic K&C products has been outstripped by the demand generated by the far larger collectors base, driving prices way higher than I could ever have contemplated.

I have to disagree with you all a little here. What one spends on toy soldiers is an investment in that it usually appreciates and for myself as well as for a few others, i am sure if i did not spend the money on toy soldiers my wife would have surely spent it on something that would not keep or increase its value. Can any of you sympathize with that?

Wise words.

I don't really believe any true collector begins with the idea of future returns. He simply starts with something that catchs his interest.....and then it builds from there. I know thats how it was for me. 20 years went by before I ever considered selling anything.......how could it ever be replaced?

Financial responsibilities, a home, college & law school for daughter, normal expenses along with the ever increasing prices of items I collected seemed to spell the end of my collecting days until the wife suggested I sell some of the "Junk" that filled my den!

Thats when the collection began to fund itself. There are many different types of collectors, some rich, most simply comfortable. A few have learned to trade, sell, or other wise exchange one item for another it adds even more enjoyment to the hobby.

I guess for some it is the evolution of the collection, certainly the fellow at it for a year or two has little concern for its value or money spent. Fast forward 10 or 20 years and you have a different situation. I used my collection to buy my first classic car......a corvette. I used that corvette a few years later for a down payment on my first home.

Today my collection is like an old friend, always willing to go off on yet another adventure with me.:)

Interesting post Njja. I myself haven't collected K&C pieces long enough to turn them over for newer pieces that I want. However I like your strategy and will likely pursue it in the future. For example I generally like the newer releases as they are better detailed than the old in my opinion. So if K&C rereleases an improved version of something I already have in my collection the old version will go bye-bye and hopefully that piece can pay for the new one. Anything extra made on the sale is gravy but its not my prime motivation or expectation. ;)

There's a difference between a meeting of the minds and losing one's mind....Try as you may.....Many buyers are not easily fooled by speculators:D:p.....I stand firmly in common sense and so do most other people

Exactly, and quite often the pursuit of an item is more exciting then the actual possession of it! I recall chasing after the AN11 figure for quite some time.....then quite by chance I found myself with 3 of them! I now have 2 one each in different displays, and another collector is enjoying the 3rd. A satisfactory conclusion to the hunt.

Why not give yourself the option of exchanging an item or two for several new sets you would like to have. Rather then deal with mounting credit card debt for yet another item simply placed on the shelf?

Every now an then I try to see my den through my wife's patient eyes......to me it is a comfortable place.........to her a madhouse!:D

So the buyer of the kublewagen and the seller don't have the right to make a deal in "Your World"? How nice.

I guess neither of them "qualifies" in your view to be considered a "Collector" either.......

It must be nice to be the World's Greatest Authority......on matters that don't concern you.:D

You must have a difficult time at the gas station! Do you tell them how much gas is worth.............do they sell it to you for a dime a gallon?:D

Tell them you stand firmly.......I'm sure they will give in.

Just a footnote as a result of this thread yet another kublewagen may have been exchanged between a couple more "zany collectors"

Oh those crazy guys!:rolleyes::D:)

I re-refer to post #32 and #34....Hugs and kisses:p

Guys,

Here about sums it up:

Njja - your points are well taken and correct, but there are those who really could care less about value.

Vez- your points are well taken and correct, but there are those who will continue to profit.

Whats the point of all this? Everybody collects for a different reason/strategy and they are all correct.

Now CUMBYA and let's move on.

He's right about that. Made an offer I couldn't refuse. Will help me get some newer things and maybe some retired glossy K & C stuff!
