This is an interesting project!
The horse looks the stature of a pony! So would be a nice trooper in an African Rifles Troop......For the European theater it would seem odd...
A picture of a full cavalry horse for comparison...:salute::

Actually, the USMC Horse Marines were mounted on Mongolian ponies. They only served in China in the 20's-1941.

Hi All, , just coming back to this. Had a good look and I reshaped the pose, lowered the seat. I also redrilled the arm sockets higher.

Also lengthened the neck and decided that it will be a full dress marine uniform which is more colourful than the drab khaki uniform. I'll do the drab uniform for my sousaphone piece. I selected a salute pose and then reworked the leg pose drastically to get a correct seat.

More adjustment on the seat. Finally managed to push down the figure.

Added a garand. Figure is smartening up.

Cleaned up a bit and ptd an undercoat to visualise the colours. Horse has a slight blue tint from the turps. Blue really gets everywhere.

And more refinement. Added buttons belt.

Tightening up the details for the horse furniture. Added saddle bag straps.

Some movement here. I painted the marine.

And then decided to refine this figure with hollowed out cuffs.

Finally Ive started to paint this marine.

Finally added the buttons. Was searching for my button tubing and finally made all the buttons I wanted on the figs.

Corrected the evil eye. Painted the buttons and added the red piping.

Looks like the same problem as the Zouave with the runny gold paint?

Hi John,

Yes. Stupid gold run, just like in the current banking situation....hahahaha.

I redid the button and also improved the sculpt here and there. Then worked on the horse rigging.

Finally, added the horse bits and reins! Added spurs to the boots. Added putty to the pants to position the figure on the saddle.
Almost done with this long running piece. Started painting it in earnest.
