Please refer to me by my new nickname......Firestarter!

Today while relaxing the wife asked me to go downstairs and check the pilot light on the furnace since the house did not appear to be warming up! I went downstairs and luckily I was wearing my reading glasses!:D I took the safety covers off the furnace and lit the pilot lite with little trouble but when I replaced the covers and turned it on the pilot light again went out.

So....I took the covers off and attempted to once again light the furnace. I forget to set it to pilot light and for some unknown reason (which escapes me at the moment) pushed the switch which activates the furnace. The resulting explosion set off the fire alarms and drew the wife downstairs! I got knocked back and noticed my eyeglasses were considering once again becoming particles of sand! Fortunately when I fell back I released the furnace switch so it remained in place with the pilor light still unlit.

Wife asked me what I had done and what was wrong with my face?
While still appearing somewhat normal (for me) I had neatly singed the old eyebrows, done a nice chemical peel/suntan on areas not covered by melted reading glasses! Oh and hand holding grill lighter was now medium rare thank you!

I completed the assignment this time being sure to use "Pilot" mode and avoiding the "furnace" switch. I am now sitting on the couch with a ice pack on my hand and the aroma of burnt me lingering in the air!:D

If I can be of any further assistance in how not to perform simple household chores please let me know!

I am considering releasing a video!

...... Wife asked me what I had done and what was wrong with my face?

"Oh, you know, bloke stuff"

It is the responsibility of the male population, to keep Paramedics, ER staff and Fire Officers in gainful employment. ;)

Hope its not serious??? That could have been so much worse!!!

Njja, glad to hear that you are relatively all right. I can't tell you how many calls I ran over the years involving furnace and fireplace accidents that did not end so well. Thank your lucky star and reading glasses. Hope your burn feels better soon. -- Al

Thanks guys, face feels like a minor sunburn......wonder if it will tan!

Hand is the worst, although mostly uncomfortable not blistering or serious.

Its probably a warning to be a bit more careful! Yesterday I was using my
backpack leaf blower and it leaked gas on the back of the sweatshirt I was wearing.........I'm certainly not letting that happen again!

As you can see its not that serious!

Geez, John, I'm glad you weren't hurt seriously. Please be careful :)

Hi John,

Ditto what Brad said! I am very glad you are surviving the event. I hope you will not be too sore the next few days.

Take care and stay safe!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat
