New eBay user, two weeks and no pay. Buyer did tell me that he is new and having a hard time getting paypal to withdraw funds from his account. Ok. No problem.

Buyer asks to send invoice via email directly which I did three times.

So, it's been two weeks, no communication from him this week and I've sent a few emails letting him know I can process via Visa or Mastercard via telephone. Nothing, no response to that.

I have offered to cancel the transaction without getting him with an unpaid strike. Waiting to hear back on that as I just did that today.

Am I being too hasty? I hate the idea of alienating new buyers - I am generally very supportive and give advice and stuff but I don't want this to drag on.

I generally believe that when the commitment has been made to buy something that it should be done within a week or so one way of the other. Especially if the seller is offering other payment option outside of Paypal.

Feedback?

I think you've been more than fair Gideon. The only thing would give me pause is if you cancel the transaction and then the buyer leaves you a negative.

I'd require him to send a money order at this point, or go ahead and give him the unpaid hit. Document everything.

He only has two feedbacks. He is new. He's in Canada so a money order I don't think will work. I would like to re-list the item as soon as possible.

I don't sell on ebay, but as a lawyer I have handled and observed disputes. So, my comments:
Is it possible buyer has computer troubles, or maybe his grandma died? There might be an explanation. I had trouble with a seller once, and before I sent negative feedback or ramped up the issue I gave him a chance to explain. Turns out he was out of town for a week and his teenage daughter was in charge. She couldn't be troubled to ship anything nor read my e-mails.
You know more about this than I do, but doesn't the ebay Resolution Center work for sellers as well as buyers?
Good luck; must be frustrating. You have been more than patient.

Yes, Terry's right, he should be able to buy a money order in Canada.

The issue with money orders and Canada is that Canadian banks stopped negotiating one of the types of money orders we could buy from the US Post Office, if I remember correctly. They were the so-called "green" money orders, and so many Canadian sellers noted that they would not accept them.

From the viewpoint of a bank, a money order is one step removed from cash, since it represents cash paid the drawee (the bank or company on which it's drawn).

But whatever you do, I think you've gone more than far enough in accommodating this guy.

Prost!

I believe there is a section to set up your account to only allow a buyer with a feedback of some greater number to bid on your item?

Ebay has a resolution center for this, if you report it to them. Actually, they recommend that you try to work it out with the seller/buyer, and then bring it up with them. Not sure what they can do, but I think that they would allow you to cancel the transaction without you receiving negative feedback from the buyer.

Did you send a payment reminder using eBay. That always seems to get their attention as it contains some text from eBay reminding the buyer of their obligation and the consequences if they do not pay.

I've used it a couple of times to get things moving.

I've sent several reminders.

I also just heard from another seller who told me of a similar issue with this buyer. Very slow to pay.

So, now what? If I complete this transaction, this user can say anything they want if they feel annoyed that I am pursuing payment.

I have this in the resolution center now. It's an unpaid dispute/offer to cancel the transaction.

I most auction cycles, there's one or two who make things complicated.

I think you have been more than fair,i buy alot off ebay/internet because i have to down here no soldier shops in my city, and some get upset if you dont pay immediatly and sometimes that is pretty hard because of time difference and im sleeping, but some dont give a rats.Whats the item i might be interested........lol

Same problem with the same individual. He seems nice enough and I believe he did have genuine issues as one payment came blitzkrieg fast with the rest halted for the same reasons you mentioned earlier. But then COMMS went down and he was MIA for quite a while. I finally initiated the non-paying bidder alert and the payment was made within 12 hours along with an apology. I would suggest giving him a little more time based on my experience. Let me know if I can be of any more help at all.

Good Luck,
Marc

I would go ahead and give the strike, it'll get'em movin, IMO.

I think as a seller , you've been fair and balanced. It'll cost you in the long run if you wait much longer...

I will never again offer a buyer a cancellation.

If the buyer rejects the cancellation, the seller will not be able to file an unpaid strike. It is one or the other and you get only one shot. No final value fee credit neither. On the phone, an eBay representative has told me that this policy is not written on the website but if you call they will tell you.

That is good to know. I recently bought an item knowing I would not be paying for it and would be leaving a negative (I think that may have some guys interested !!).

Basically an Ebay seller in the UK was selling two Australian SAS prints which were obviously fakes (I know as I know the artist and sell the same prints) . Had copied image but everything underneath was false (ie, title, no mention of signatures, S/No etc). Was informed about this on 1 DEC and he removed them and said that was how he bought them. I also reported the items to Ebay.

A week later he relisted them (totally three prints). I again reported each to Ebay but realised nothing was going to happen before items ended. I bought one at Buy It Now and started bidding on the others. As soon as I bought the BIN I asked a number of questions since seller indicated buyer would be totally satisfied. These were questions he could not possibly answer (ie who signed, size, did it have S/No etc). Soon after Ebay cancelled my auction bids on the basis I was not likely to pay (the logic of Ebay on this is interesting). One of the auction items did sell.

Seller never answered my questions or contacted me. I did receive a request to cancel the transaction which I turned down and in my reason indicated seller was selling fake prints and knew it. After asking the questions 3 x and getting no reply I finally left a negative indicating he was selling fake SAS prints (note both prints were published by the Australian SAS Association to benefit members).

Ebay certainly not that interested.

Cheers Brett:

I rather enjoyed this scenario. You played nice and gave him/her a chance to correct the fraudulent sale(s). The reaction was not positive so you engineered a well thought out attack with minimal help from eBay of course. Good show & thanks for sharing.

I find it interesting that eBay cancelled auctions on the likelihood you were not going to pay. What was that notice like? I've never seen anything like that.

Well, this buyer finally did get payment through - yesterday. I knew he was having difficulty with eBay and Paypal but I just don't understand when other payment options are offered. Oh well.

Hi Guys,
The message came in as :
Dear eBay Community Member,
The bid that you entered for the item (220527012622) has been cancelled. You can view the reason provided for the cancellation by selecting the (bid history) link from the individual item page.

and the bid history shows the following.

Buyer has no intention of paying for item.reported to E bay.

Note Ebay never consulted me about this. One wonders how the seller requested Ebay to cancel my bids. Something like I know he won't pay becuase he has reported my fake SAS prints five times and I can't answer his questions about authenticity.
If Ebay had looked at the sellers Messages they would also have seen previous messages from another Ebayer (actually serving SAS who has the prints) asking questions about authenticity which were never answered.

Regards
Brett
