How's the Weather? (1 Viewer)

Checking in from San Antonio, TX

Currently it's beautiful and clear skies expected to get to 77 degrees.

Day 3 and no power in sight. Company was open today and all the people with no power came in early to get a shower. Was riding around yesterday and saw some telephone poles down and so on.

Lots of wood so the fireplace is well stocked. You go to bed reading by flashlight or candlelight. Brings you back to how it was before the electric era.

I do hope things get back to normal for you very soon mate, we come to rely on power so much its miserable when we don't have it. Hope things are much better soon.

The world must have gone mad because over here its almost a summer like day, lots of Sun and pretty warm. Went for my run and was pretty soaked very quickly, just love jogging in this weather, get the iphone on take a drink and its off across open country. Beautiful colours all around, good to be alive type of day! :)

About 2 million people are still without power. Some here won't get power back until the end of this week. This is a result of 4-6 inches of snow. A tell tale sign that things in America are on the decline. We have bridges that have been closed in our area for over two years because they are falling down and no one wants to pay for their repair. If they bury these utility lines underground and run fiber while they are at it the cost would be a fraction of the cost involved in these situations, improve national security, and give everyone high speed internet access. But it will never get done.

What my mother might have said about this was that: " this is why we can't have nice things!"

Our infrastructure is made of spun sugar and cob webs. The other problem is that we have "weather" but the infotainment news makes it seem like the "Storm of the Century" of the week.

Thanks Rob. It also shows how easily things get knocked out. Sometimes I think that for all the technology we have, we're just one slip away from Mother Nature showing how little we have control of things.

The world won't end, just us, and the world will not notice.

Know what you mean, Rob, had a good work out today myself. Had to turn the ignition on twice. Trooper

Day 4 and no end in sight. However, the work crews have started clearing away the trees that were blocking streets. Hopefully, tomorrow is the day :smile2:

Hopefully, this is the last update but power has been restored and not a minute too soon as I'm nursing a bad cold. I should feel a sense of relief but somehow don't. Just glad the power is back I suppose.

Glad to hear the power is back, Brad. Hope you dump the cold soon. One just doesn't realize how important electricity is to EVERITHING, until it's gone. The power grid is the be all and end all. -- Al

Interesting how little press coverage this gets. The only story I hear is a daily estimate of those without power. No hint of criticism about the utility companies or why we still have power lines above ground in the year 2011. If terrorists knocked out the power for millions of people, it would be headlines for months. I read today that the unemployment rate in Reading, PA is 41%! Not a pretty sight in small town USA. I bet a lot of those people would like jobs placing these power lines underground.
