HUGE collection....is Quantity important at all (1 Viewer)

I see some plasticTimpo Swoppets and Britains Deetail figures in the pictures.

Mostly plastic - Timpo and Airfix/Britains Detail, mass market.
The planes seem interesting if confirmed they are 1:32 scale.....
This guy was not collecting, he was hoarding........^&grin^&grin
No specific theme other than a mixture of WW2, Legion, Arabs, Middle Ages, Civil War both, English and American and modern......periods.

I would have had to call in sick the days that the collection was packed up, brought back to the auction house and catalogues for sale!
Wowza that is a lot of sorting to have done!

That's about 14 large in US dollars...............hmm.......:wink2:

Yeah but Larry, this could be IT, the Mother load, the Father load, the you name it load, we could strait up RETIRE off of this one.

So we'll be in traction the rest of our lives with blown out backs, but it's a small price to pay for riding off into the sunset....................well, until the next Mother load comes along.......................:wink2:

10,000 pounds stg? That is underpriced for this collection.

Agreed, he's got loads of vintage Britains Deetail and Swoppets, plus Timpo Swoppets too.

He also has raftloads of Britains trees, Airfix plastic buildings and Airfix and Britains vehicles.

An auction house had better know how to list this in proper lots; the shipping from the UK, or shipping in general is risky with no boxes as they had better know how to pack it properly too.

If there are 250,000 Britains Deetail, swoppets and Timpo swoppets along with unpainted Airfix figures and had this collection had come on the market 5 to 10 years ago, a fair "collector price" on the items would put the value at about 500,000 pounds to 1,000,000 pounds or more, not 10,000 pounds, 10,000 pounds in criminal as a final price for all of that even in todays depressed secondary platstics market. Tough to get a real handle on what is there, whoever that clambrain was operating the camera gave me vertigo trying to watch it, WAY too fast.

I went to an auction about a year ago that an auction house with zero toy soldier experience was putting on, the way they auctioned it off was pitiful, Trophy mixed with Britains, Imperial mixed with Tradition, etc, etc, no rhyme or reason to any of the lots, not to mention I was banging heads with a collector who was determined to win every lot, I got a few of them regardless...........................above everything else, really sad this passionate collector passed away so young, 55 is a crying shame, now his life long passion will get peddled to the highest bidder.

Very sad.

As has been mentioned, £10,000 is definitely a typo.

If the 10k was accurate, just based on the pics in the Daily Mail I’d buy this collection totally without any need to go to auction.

Viewing and I’d assume a catalogue is available on the 26th.

It may be a typo, but it's repeated twice, once in the early paragraph, and later, in a quote attributed to the representative of the auction house. If it were just in the text, I'd be more willing to agree that it's a typo. But since it's in the citation. it sounds like that was the figure given. Now, the representative may have misspoken, too. I agree that ten thousand pounds is definitely too little for a collection of that size and of the contents that we can see in the photos alone.

Anyway, I don't have room for it.

Prost!

"Anyway, I don't have room for it."

Few men do.

Good; one less person bidding against me..............;)................

It is extremely impressive, but .... I wonder if you would enjoy such a massive collection?:rolleyes2:

Once you set all this in place, then what? Maybe just the acquisition was the goal and not really "PLAYING" with them.

I've had the pleasure of viewing a number of customers collections over the years, also have viewed collections that were up for sale for various reasons.

I'd estimate 99% of those were set up in permanent displays, most of them had figures arranged on shelves, rows and rows of figures, others had various scenes and dioramas set up on shelves.

I've seen little to no collections that were packed away to be taken out and "played" with from time to time, not sure how much playability there is with metal toy soldiers that range in price from 20.00 to 80.00 for foot figures..........................

...but never in the company of the lovely Jamie Colby. Rowr! ;)

Hey George,

When I say "played with" I mean to set up different scenes, new dioramas, working out a story and such ... as so many of the collectors on here do.

AND ... you and your massive museum quality Civil War, WWII and Napoleonic War dioramas are just an example. ^&grin

On our loooooong 7 to 17 hour drives to the shows we had discussed the "enjoyment" in researching the topic, laying out the boards, setting up the scenery and placing the figures. Then finally photographing the setup and sharing it with others here, on T.F. and other locations.

That is a LOT of fun. It can take many hours to do all of this .... but that is what this hobby is all about. {sm3}

When you have every inch of space occupied like this gent, then I don't see that he could do that. Then again maybe it was a continual setup and display when you consider 250,000 figures.

Hummmmm ... If I were to buy 250,000 JJD, K&C figures, planes, etc ... from you that would be ... lets see .... ummmm? ... something like $12,500,000.00 {eek3} {sm2}

Gee, I could do maybe $12,500,000 if I could have a price break? Would that be free shipping?

--- LaRRy

That’s way too much, I’d have to cap it at $12,000,000
