Anyone see this movie? I can't imagine having that job for a living. Defusing those bombs is for the birds. My hands would be shaking to much to defuse those things.

I thought is was not bad; it is well worth seeing. I have a friend who did that in SEA and I couldn't imagine doing it either.

Even after reading a lot of positive reviews...I struggled with it...I was tired the night I watched it...maybe I should give it another chance...

Yo Troopers, taking nothing away from the brave Troops in Iraq, not even knowing who your enemy is in the street. I am with Mike on this, the movie did nothing for me, even got bored watching it, and I wasn't tired Mike thought it was something special after the rave reviews. Very poor movie.
Bernard.

Got to agree with Mike and Bernard-it just left me cold and bored with no idea what all the trumpeting and accolades were about.

I have not seen the movie yet but today's Detroit Free Press has a story about the soldier who is the basis for the movie. He claimed they used the name "Hurt Locker" which he used and also made the movie character like him. He filed a lawsuit against the embedded reporter and movie company for not giving him a royalty. He has our illustrious Detroit attorney Geoffrey Fiegler filing the lawsuit. John

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I watched it about two weeks ago and couldn't stay with it.

I agree good film but not a great one...felt like I was watching a CSI like tv series for a lot of it , shoot out in desert was well done though.

rewatched lions for lambs recently and it wasn't as bad as I first remembered it ...

My son and I started watching it last night (didn't finish it as he had to go to bed) but I thought it was mesmerizing. Not a job I'd want to have.

was trawling thru some reviews and I thought this was an interesting comment on the film

"When "Apocalypse Now" came out critics called it a masterpiece, the definitive Vietnam movie. Vets I talked to however said by and large it was garbage phony as hell. It wasn't until "Platoon" came out that the vets were pleased. "Platoon" was written directed by Oliver Stone who was a veteran. To me it is the definitive Vietnam movie. I believe when and if the definitive film about the current conflict comes out it will be made by a veteran someone who really knows what went on over here. I believe this film does not portray these soldiers heroically but rather as gung-ho reckless cowboys. The real heroism displayed by these guys every day is not shown at all. Hollywood owes it to us veterans to make a film that is honest about this war and not resort to phony heroism when there is plenty of real heroism out there every day. "The Hurt Locker" is well acted and well made but utterly preposterous and not a realistic portrayal at all. "

Well while I didn't mind seeing it I agree about the accolades and now the awards. Frankly I couldn't believe it was even nominated for best picture. I think it was a PC choice, something the Academy is known for over the years.

Do you think any other industry gives peer awards totally on merit?

On the other hand Bill it could have been-"We don't want Cameron to win choice". Hollywood insiders state he has p####d off a lot of people in his time and to give it to Bigelow-his ex instead- is pure archetypal Tinsel Town script writing.

It is simply not a great film and will quickly be forgotten within 12 months by acid headed war movie fans ;) But what we may get in a couple of years time is a movie about the 2010 Oscars and the insider dealing by the Academy :D

Yo Reb, I second your comments mate, couldn't have worded it better.
Bernard.
