In this Churchyard you will find a memorial to Lieutenant Edgar Oliphant ANSTEY - 1/24th (2nd Warwickshire Regt.), the only British casualty killed at ISANDHLWANA and buried in the UK

Did I mention I live in Surrey, about 2 miles from the Church shown in the link above and not a ghetto for miles:D

Hi, Ales, not to whiz on the parade, but I think you should re-examine the info you have so far, before hanging out a Union Jack and singing "Rule Britannia". I'm skeptical of most of these commercial genealogical services and the info that they have.

If your last name is Fidler, I'd say that the evidence so far, given that you live in Slovenia, which was once part of the Habsburg lands, still tends to the conclusion that you're of German origin, at least as far as the Fidlers are concerned.

You might want to start with the immediate preceding generations, ie, your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Have they lived where you live today, in all that time? If so, I'd look for local records, the parish books, for example, and local census records. Despite the wars that have swept over the area, I'd think that there may still be a pretty good bureaucratic trail going back at least to the 18th century.

Also, do you have any family history, passed down from one generation to the next? I'm not saying that you'd have a story from father to son and so on, reaching back to Hastings, but there might be details which have been preserved for the past few generations, which might tend to support or disprove the conclusion the website came up with.

Like I said before, I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, just, be skeptical, until there's good info to prove one way or the other.

Prost!

What is a Chip Shop? It's a restaurant where they sell "Fish and Chips". Chips are also known as French Fries or Pomme Frites in other parts of the world. In Britain they eat them with Malt Vinegar instead of Ketchup, which seems wrong, but people seem to like it.:)

Chip Shops,...haha now i understand wh yyou wannt to know if we have nay Chip Shops in Slovenia?
We do not have original Chip Shops, but i think it is sound interested....
But we have Mc Donalds, and some other quick food like Kebab,Burek,....i also like pommes frites or french frize(even it is original from Belgium haha) well it is the best food ever,so simply and so goooooooood

I was thinking "Surrey" is a sorry excuse of a town haha but i was wrong, because if you do not have a Premier ship football club that do not mean nothing bad right;) i am still learning
Well do you know any people surname Fidler i think there must be a lot of them with that surname.I get an information that this surname is the 14 most popular(on the chart of surnames) in the Surrey. And i see there is one person Robert Fidler who make a castle from a dry grass haha.He is crazy enough to be my relative that is for sure haha.

So no lordship for me than ha?
You wannt to say that i am not English, ONLY German ;) :D:D
Well yes i was thinking my relatives must come from Germany but i am sure this people(Fidler) who live in England today must come from Germany too.
I just do not know my ancestors come from germany. Is this from Saxons times in 10 century or later....i will try to get some info but i doubt i will find out something.
But my grandfather name was Franc which is German Franz so it is sound german than and i live in a part of Slovenia which is called Steirmarkt just like in Austria but we are lower Steirmarkt and they are upper Steirmarkt (around Graz),but we say Stajerska, but germans say Steirmarkt.
And i think a lot of people which surname end with -er are Germans like Fidler,Fischer,Gruber,Steiner,Stangasinger,...they all have -er
Like Bulgarian have -ov at the end (Balakov,Stoickov,Berbatov,...)
or Serbian and Croatian have -ic (milosevic,Stevanovic,Novakovic,Ljubijankic,...)

i think this is something that shows where we came from.
Do you think i must apply for German citizenship?
