Imperial HS set 2 (1 Viewer)

Great find!! For those interested, here is what I know about the Gordon HS sets (most of this based on what Drum and David Cowe told me). I got HS 1, Gordon Highlanders on Parade, one of the rarest of all Imperial sets, in the fall of 2008. I didn't think I'd ever land one and then 2 HS1 Gordons showed up on Ebay in a matter of months. Drum won both of them and then gave me the chance to pick up the second one he landed (which was very kind). My understanding is that these sets were made for the Toy Soldier Gallery in Highland Falls, NY (probably at some point in the late 1980's or early 1990's). Drum spoke to the Toy Soldier Gallery and David Cowe and the best estimate is that Imperial made only 6 of these sets. Two of the HS 1 Gordons have been accounted for now. If you own one of the other four, post your story of how you landed it. The one I had was previously owned by a retired hospital executive in Ohio. They were mint. He never removed them from the box. Note the cover of the box is for the Cameron Highlanders. Imperial never made a separate cover for these sets. Instead, they just came with a certificate. If you want to see pictures of them (and rest of my Imperial collection), you can check out my profile page.

Dan,
Thank you for your input. As I mentioned they made 10 pairs (HS1 +HS2)... I will double check it...
My understanding is that Toy Soldier gallery had their 5 pairs...and your sets came from that bundle...
I will post a picture of my unopened box later and will try to track sets from other bundle...

Al, thanks for the info on the sets. Look forward to seeing pictures of your set.

Hey Al,
Did your set come with a note, written on Imperial Productions stationary, stating that this was a special set, made for _____ ?

There was one in each of my sets.

Identified mine as having been made for the Toy Soldier Gallery.

Hmm, given this discussion is about the disavowed, here's a pic of my latest arrivals. The box has no external or internal label, but includes the large Camerons sticker, marching order sheet and letter on Imperial Letterhead with "This set HS1 has been specially painted for Toy Soldier Gallery, Highland Falls, NY as Gordon Highlanders, Egypt 1882".
You can see the Camerons in the shelf just below.

Beautiful set of Gordon Highlanders:salute::

Would it be possible to post a separate picture of your Camerons?

Cheers

Well, here is what I know about the Gordon Highlander Heirloom sets. In 2008, I was talking on the phone with Greg Hahn of Stone Castle Imports in Kentucky, he asked me if I had the Gordon Heirloom set. Actually, I did not even know it existed. He said that ten of each (HS1 and HS2) had been made as Gordons. He said that they had been made for someone else who ultimately did not take them. David Cowie contacted him to see if he wanted them; he took five of each as did someone else, who he though was in Britain. These are probably the New York sets.

He told me that he had just found a new, never opened set of HS2 Gordons in his warehouse and wanted to know if I would like them! I asked him to check his warehouse again to see if he also might have a HS1 Gordons set, other Imperial sets, or Trophy of Wales sets. He called back saying that he didn't, but had found another HS2 Gordons set. He offered both of them to me, but I only bought one. The set was in its original cardboard box still sealed with the original packing tape. The cardboard box had "H/S2 Gordons" hand printed in the upper left corner. When I opened it, it had the large Cameron label on the wooden box, with no other markings.

At the 2010 West Coaster Show, I was talking to vendor Scott Morlan, who was one of the original three founders of the show. It was 3:00 PM and the show had just closed. His tables are just across from mine. I happened to notice what looked like an Imperial Heirloom cardboard box among his stacks of toy soldier sets. Unbelievably, it was a set of HS1 Gordons! Needless to say, I bought it on the spot. Now you know where two more of these Heirloom Gordons sets reside.

Cool post and interesting info!

If we tried hard, we could probably track down the location of all ten sets.

Cheers,

At the 2008 Chicago Show, there was a collector who had brought his entire Imperial Collection to sell. I believe his last name was Anderson. He had a huge collection from set No. 1 Girl's Khaki Brigade up through, at least, the Crimean War. None of his figures appeared to have ever been removed from their boxes. He had a rare "sample" set in a No. 5 Maori Contingent box which had one figure each from the first six sets. He not only had both Cameron Heirloom sets, but also had both Gordon Heirloom sets, too. His wife was with him and when I told them that I had written an article on Imperial for the September 2007 issue of Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine, she proceeded to buy a back copy of that issue from another vendor at the show.
