In praise of Arnhem (1 Viewer)

Rob..

Your right and, when we were taught about these battles at school in our history classes the teacher started this campaign stating it was the greatest disaster the US army had faced in its history in terms of POW's taken!!! asked what the battle was and, then went on to teach us about the last great offensive by the germans on the western front. He was a strange chap and reminds me now of Starky in his way!!! I know the brit involvement in the bulge but, I still like seeing the winter releases that K&C release each winter as that range is some of the best they make IMO.

I would suspect that most collectors will get something they have as a priority in the next 18 months from what was said at the Brisbane dinner and discussion. Not many can really disagree hell, even nebelwerfers are coming!!!!
Mitch

This is quite true, another example is the fact that there were Brits at the Battle of the Bulge but its remembered mainly as a US battle and as yet we've not had any Brit releases for this Battle . But whatever the facts if you are waiting for US releases they will surely be along sooner or later, all these releases go in cycles.

Great dio Rob. I always enjoy seeing this one with burned out Panther. Yes, the MG line from K&C is a great one, but I don't have any pieces from it yet.{eek3} This is one that for whatever reason I just never did get started on. After viewing your collection here, it makes me want to at least get a few sets from the MG range.

Thanks Duke. Can't recommend them enough mate, and as you say just a few would make for a very effective scene. When I ' burnt out ' that Panther is was the most difficult dio decision I've made, take a perfectly good model and ruin it on purpose, but am very pleased how it came out and don't regret it now.

Cheers

Always enjoy the arnhem column Rob. just in the middle of building a damaged building for arnhem which, should be big enough to get most of the ground fighting troops in. hopefully get some more time to work on it in the next few days.

I was also thinking of getting some and seeing about changing the arms and weapons around so, the range gets bigger as the poses will change.

Look forward to the photos Mitch

This film is without a doubt one of the all time classic movies. What a great tribute the K&C releases are to this epic battle.Great idea in concept trying to end the war by
December 1944. Would have saved many, many lives if all went as planned !!!

I like this captured set. Kind of sets the tone for the outcome of the battle. The good news was the Pow's were treated well by the German's from all accounts that I have come across. The German commanders in this region already foresaw the consequences once the war was over and lost what "their" fate would have been had they committed any atrocities against the allied troops ! Very smart move and luckily our guys had a chance to survive.

John Timothy and Ronnie stark both 1 Para) have given vivid accounts of their time in captivity and, their escape. There are also some great shots of captured Para's sticking their fingers up and giving the finger as they were marched past the german camera's... You just have to admire their fighting spirit even after what they endured theye were still not beaten.

Many were in SS hands for only a short time and spent weeks being interrogated and moved from transit camp until they were finally found perminant camps to stay.

I echo Neil Mitch in that I look forward to seeing this, good idea to alter the troops to create new ones too.

There was recently released a book written by a Brit Para veteran featuring his Arnhem experience, his capture and subsequent adventures in captivity. He did labour duties including farming etc until arrested for sabotaging a concrete making machine. He was sent to Dresden for imprisonment and then execution. His prison was bombed during the raid on Dresden and he escaped, the things he witnessed that night have left him pretty disturbed to this day. He said he has had trouble trying to hold a relationship together and has never trusted authority again, it was heartbreaking listening to what this hero went through and the things he saw. He stated how he heard screams as people in brick shelters were baked alive during the firestorm that night in Dresden and how that sound has stayed with him all these years later.

There are no such things as good Wars, only just Wars.

Ludwig,
Are you going to be doing a dio on MarketGarden?
Also love the pic of Roy Baaty! Bladerunner was a landmark scifi film and one of my favorites!
Martin
Kings X

Hi Martin!!

I cannot let it out but.......Yes .............I am currently working on a diorama but I do not know whether it will be titled Market Garden or what yet. The dio took a giant leep forward again last night.

So keep your peepers peeled!!!!

Ludwig

Oh Yeah...Blade Runner was a great movie. The part where Roy Baaty says just before he died.........."I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die"...... Had to love that.

Word is they are working on a new one after all these years!!!with Ridley Scott. No Harrison Ford though.
