Just saying Inappropriate content doesn't help us understand the problem. Was there a problem with the initial post or were people's responses getting out of hand?

I posted a dio with the new "In der fuhrer's face" set. One forum member got upset about Adolf being peed on. The rest is history. I did have about a 3 minute good
laugh to myself. You had to see it.

I did not see a problem with the post at all. Was it in good taste I am not the one to ask. But if it is sold by the owners of this forum maybe they should ask will I stock this product. Simmo.

As I stated in a message to PA right on open forum.....I was the one that flagged it for removal. I felt that it was inappropriate and that more...it would bring inappropriate posts that would be even worse.

I am German. Hitler was a monster. My family members were decimated in the numbers by having to fight for the Nazi regime. I have memories of the bombed out horror that was Munchen and Nuremberg as a child. Some of our homes were scraped in to rubble piles well into the 60's before they could be rectified. I have items from these homes in mine, twisted and melted, that remind me of what they went through. In our family then and the eldest to this day...never..I mean never spoke or speak of the war.

However, when I look at the figure it feels like a stab at the German people because he was our leader unfortunately.

In my American home I do not care for the current President....but I do not urinate on his picture....make figures of it.....and obviously not post anything like that.

You may not agree with me...or I you......

I am Man enough to say again...I asked that it be removed......no offense to you PA...I count you as friend.

Your friend,

Ludwig

Ludwig- I must state that I am not against this set- I am Jewish, and I too lost many relatives in the war and in the camps. But I really respect your post, and get where you are coming from, and I think I agree with you. If it was offensive to you, I think we should respect that.
-Sandor

I think if the set is too offensive to post in a diorama, it should be too offensive to list it for sale on Treefrog. Remember the debates over the Berghoff sets - but dios of those stayed up. How far do we go to eliminate offensiveness?

Thank you Sandor. However, I feel bad that I may have upset my friend PA Wayne. I do value his friendship and posts.

Not sure I understand why if you say he was a monster (a strange modern conception used to negate the fact that he, like many murderes etc are not) that you were offended because it seemed a pop at him as your leader????

The release of the figure caused all sorts of ho har with certain folks on here not because of the jibe at Hitler but, on taste grounds just like the defacating german trooper did.

I suppose its down to individual people but, again in one breath people ask for absolute accuracy in terms of not only detail but historical accuracy and, these things happened on both sides. Lots of pictures of allied troops in Italy doing exactly the same thing to fat old Benito and, indeed Italian troops and civillians also.

Could we have done without the figure more than likely but, now its out expect a few more dio's with the set in. They should all not be removed or where does it end. Someone does not like blood so, remove wounded troops or medics or, medieval beheadings because they actually happened or, are still happening now in the middle east. soon we won't have any pictures to look at!!!

My opinion above...your opinion below.

Both observed with equal respect.

Ludwig

I respect all of your opinions, they raise some very valid points but I would like to address a few of my own as well.

We see many LAH dioramas that could be constituted as offensive; they depict the Third Reich at its peak, replete with Nazi personalities, marching SS troops, etc. I work in a toy soldier dealership and I've seen many customers become taken aback when they see these sets.

I don't see how a figure of a British Soldier urinating on a portrait of an evil psychopath who killed millions of innocent people even begins to be as offensive. Many, including myself, argue that an LAH range is acceptable (despite the number of Neo-Nazis it attracts) because it depicts history and is cautionary against the rise of a Nazi-like regime. But by this same argument, the figure of a Tommy taking a leak "In der Fuhrer's face" is just as acceptable; it is history.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Mike

Bayern...

My response held no opinions but, actually a question to you. You have made the stance and had a thread taken down at least on a oral forum you could explain the two points that I find confusing from your response? Thats the joys of a forum like this. My question shows no disrespect for what you have put just wondering how you differentiate the monster as you put and the fact he was your leader.

funny how people think. After 9/11 i had the kc figures of bin laden being captured and people loved it. The gm comes in and has me remove them because i might be offending people. What an ---hole. A salesman bought a big flag to fly and he wasn't allowed to. So go figure how people think. Where would this gm be if he didn't live in america. We won the war, the figure is showing history. Sure there might be a few offended, but i am sure it is a minute number. I am glad andy comes up with some of these more humeristic figures. And ludwig, don't get me wrong. I think anybody that reads ww2 history can only admire the fighting abilities of the german soldier in spite of poor leadership from the top. Of course i am biased as i am german and scottish.

Don't worry a bit! I think its important that we learn to think the way others do, because ultimately, a lack of willingness to understand and collectively solve problems between peoples and nations is what leads to wars such as WWI, and thus WWII. Thank you again for your post- let me see if I can put it in another way below:
Anyone who has been to Germany, or has a German acquaintance who they have discussed WWII with, knows that WWII is an extremely sensitive subject. Germany is a rightfully proud nation- as a group of history nuts, we all know of its long and wonderful history, from fighting the Romans, to being the cradle of the Reformation. Then there was WWII- a horrible man led a nation of willing and unwilling people to commit some of the worst crimes in history. Imagine your family- a long a proud history perhaps- and then some criminal who killed 15 people in a bank robbery. While you may have no sympathy for him whatsoever, a toy toy soldier set depicting someone peeing on his portrait might hit a nerve, or make you uncomfortable. It was hard for me to understand why people were offended by this set, but now I do. It's not really about the insult to Hitler, but about the insult to Germany, and I think we can understand how this makes Germans feel.
-Sandor

Sandor...

Have to respectfully disagree with you completely. Its rather absurd to align this set against a country when clearly it is not. The set is against Adolf Hitler and, is a true representation of what troops did in WWII. It happened at the obersaltzburg when US troops raided hitlers and goerings homes and, probably happened on any fronts you wish to mention of both allied and axis troops.

This is what troops did the set could equally have had a troop throwing darts at his face which, happened also. I have many german friends and met many german veterans many from the SS I know for a fact that many of them would be offended at this set as many have still retained the values and loyalties they had for the regime and their leader at that time. I don't know of any of the people I have met befriended etc in germany who see this as a slight against their country or their history.

If this was a german peeing on Churchill I would not feel that England as a country was being attacked. When the germans overan English positions in france one officer whose name slips me had the picture of the king in his office and, there is a photo of a german drawing a thick beard on him, its what troops do. I think we need to be a bit more realistic when we are addressing the meanings of things as often and has been shown many times on here ideas about what things actually meant or did not run riot.
Mitch

I think since the picture was not banned from the forum when it was released, any dios/posts with it should be allowed, some mods are like typo checkers these days! Hahahaha^&grin

Mitch, I am going to be honest and please do not take offense. I may not have been a member of this forum for long but I have read it sice...say 2005 I think.

You tend to have negative and argumentative posts at times. I do not want this to escalate into one of them. I have plenty of examples of those on hand already. I do not think you are qualified to even make comments in this case.

I dug this out of our pile that was once our family home. It was melted on the hearth by the shear heat of the fire that burned it to the ground.

...what was worse we used it for years.....because we had nothing else....

when I need to come down a peg or two....I remember those days..

Where were you when this was happening Mitch?...were you even a gleam in your Fathers eye yet....

...you already have the answers to all of your questions anyway....

First, I respect and would fight for Ludwig’s right to speak up and say that he finds that particular picture (or figure) distasteful.
However, I also agree with what Mitch said:

Could we have done without the figure, more than likely but, now it’s out, expect a few more dio's with the set in. They should all not be removed or where does it end. Someone does not like blood so, remove wounded troops or medics or, medieval beheadings because they actually happened or, are still happening now in the Middle East. Where do we draw the line?

I find it interesting that in this country more people seem offended at a nude scene in a movie than in a “Friday the 13th” dismemberment.
I never have gone (or will go) to a slice and dice movie, but I wouldn’t ever suggest that they not be shown at my local theater. My freedom is to make a choice and then exercise that right. So, why am I being denied the right to view that diorama?

Taking it down was …. 100 % the WRONG action and I am disappointed that Forum moderators took that action.:(

I lost family at Bougainville and at Kwajalein so let’s not have any more Japanese WWII dios?????? And the Confederate Flag is disrespectful so let not have any more Civil war dioramas. And Heaven forbid that we should have nudity on the forum so no more Ancient Egypt with the dancing girls ……

Sad, so very sad --- Larry

I've been in London all day today and have been unable to post on this thread, but I don't know where to start!

First of all as my old mum would say, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all! Ludwig I think you are a breath of fresh air my friend, your passion for the hobby, your country and your now eliminated :wink2: football team is admirable and it is alwyas a pleasure to converse with you here.

But.....we have to disagree my friend.

We are surely not saying are we that any insult against Hitler is an insult against Germany? Nobody with more than eleven brain cells blames the current genertion of Germans for what went on, it would be absurd. You are are an intelligent person Ludwig, you're not really saying ' Ok, I know he was the architect of the Holocaust, his ' foreign policy' brought nothing but misery, slavery and death from the skies to millions of people......but he was our leader so don't insult him!!{eek3}{eek3} It makes no sense at all mate. When that piece of filth crawled out of the toilet he was created in he not only enslaved large parts of Europe (not my part , thank God for the RAF) but brought upon Germany its greatest misery in its History. The day we are not allowed to insult this....depraved, perverted, obscenity of a human being will not only be a dark day indeed but a true insult to the millions of people of the allied and German nations that lost their lives eradicating the plague he spread round Europe.

As for your Obama remark its not worthy of you my friend. If President Obama decided on a policy of murdering all Jewish people and invading Canada and Mexico to make living space for American people, do you not honestly think we here would be hurling insults at him, I think you know they are not alike in any way at all.

Finally I'll mention the actual figure. I will be buying this and putting it in my dio. So as not to offend anyone I will do the following. Before the posts containing the pictures I will post another post that warns readers that the following thread contains the figure and if they are offended by it please read no further, this way anyone who does not like the figure will not be offended whilst we who do can enjoy it without upsetting others, that sound fair mate?

As always its good to talk with you Ludwig, just because we disagree on something doesn't mean we don't get along, just ask my missus{eek3}^&grin:wink2:

If you're reading this darling....didn't mean it!!!^&grin

Rob

Rob as always I respect your posts and views!

Thank you for sharing!!

Also, you should have never let your wife know the web address for Tree Frog..now you are double censored!!{sm4}

Ludwig...take care and have a great day.

I think I am with Rob on this one- both in his opinion and in his way of putting it, though I do respect and wish to honor Ludwig's views. Go Rob/Ludwig in their latest posts for bringing this back to the ground - well said.

Mitch- I don't disagree with you entirely- as I said before, I am not against the set, and if I collected that era, I would buy it. But try to understand where Ludwig is coming from. Obviously, we have a bit of a "forum fight" brewing here. There are clearly some very deep sentiments on both sides, and I think we all need to cool down, take stock of some points others have made, and let this thread lie (no exception on my part either). I'm sure the mods will be visiting shortly, and we should thank them for being willing to play the "bad guys" or the "parents" on this forum.
Respectfully,
Sandor
