For awile now I have considered collecting the Britains Victoria Cross series of the Indian Mutiny but have hesitated because I didn't want to get into another area/period. I currently collect Agincourt Knights (matte), Crimean War in glossy (prefered) & matte and the Boer War in glossy & matte. I have other odds and ends but these are the big 3 for me so to speak.

The Agincourt figures are from the now gone Forward March figures & retired Britains series. As to figures from the Crimean & Boer Wars, I buy whatever I like & can afford.

Anyway, the recent sale a Treefrog was too good for me to pass up and I decided to take the plunge and get what remaining Indina Mutiny series figures they still had available. As I'm sure most here know, this series has also been discontinued, but most of the 12 items in the series are still available save for the elephant towing the cannon which is rather scarce already. I believe that many collectors bought this piece for it's unique appeal and were not interested in the rest of the series.

In searching for other figures to add to the series, I find that other that Bill Hocker, most makers have ignored this era. Do any follow collectors know of any other toy soldier makers that have made figures or sets from the Indian Mutiny?

TROPHY MINIATURES of WALES did a limited range of figures.

These are these ones I have

Thanks Martyn! I was aware that Trophy had done a series of these figures and they would be perfect except for the fact that they are rather hard to find. Not to mention the cost! :(

Your sets do look grand!

Thank you Chuck.

Unfortunately you are right on both counts, hard to find and costly.

I took this photo at one of the London shows last year, the sets make a nice display.

The elephant set is still available from MKL. http://www.mklmodels.co.uk/victoria-cross-collection-358-c.asp

Hi Guys

For info MKL are selling Britains Indian Mutiny figures at £4.50 and £5 GBP each on their Ebay shop the figures are un boxed but great for filling in for dioramas of this unusual period, I bought the complete set of Highlanders all singles were £5 each and the double set was £10.00 a bargain.

John, thanks for the info on the unboxed figures. I will consider them if I need some duplicates.
Maybe the collectors from Britain can enlighten me some about the historical importance of the Indian Mutiny? I was under the impression that this was a rather major incident in British History, yet I'm suprised that it's not covered more by the toy soldier makers.

Hi Chuck

I couldn't resist the sale either. I purchased ten of the Crimean War sets and four of the Indian Mutiny sets. They should arrive on Wednesday. I don't know much about either incident, but I really like the figures. My favorites are the saving the captains sets.

I plan on purchasing some Osprey books. I have gotten good deals on Osprey books through abebooks.com. The seller "PlumCircle" seems to buy a lot of Osprey overstock. Last time, I purchased five for $39 including shipping.

Welcome Tintin to the very addictive world of toy soldiers. As stated in my first post, Ive been interested in the Crimean war for some time. I allready had most of the Britains VC Crimean figures before the sale.

An excellent book to read on the Charge of the Light Brigade is "Hell Riders". I'ts a up-to-date look at all that occurred that fateful day and I highly recommend it.

Hi Guys,

These are both really interesting eras and I wish they would pursue them again but thats for another time. I really love the Crimean series and have mixed the old with the new in a recent photo. I also found the Saving Cpt Webb set as one of the better action sets made for the Crimean Line. I have nearly all of the Crimean series and am always in the market for duplicates because I like massed displays of Cavalry. I am hopeful that we will see some mounted Russians to go against the Thin Red line series that Britians is producing for the Collectors Club, so if you arent a member of the club yet you should join. I am sure you will appreciate the special club figures that are available.

The Indian Mutiny Series also was well done and in my opinion far too short lived. I really am glad they made Sepoys for the battles I would also like to see some more elephants done and have the Elephant Battery set so more of those pesky pachaderms would be greatly welcome.

For reading you can find many out of print books on both subjects on ebay. They are usually very inexpensive and will go deeper than the Osprey books. The Osprey books are great and give a lot of detailed pictures so dont get me wrong I like them for that aspect. Anyway its great to see some other guys interested in these two series.

Does anyone know the weight of the W. Britain 3 piece Secundra Bagd set for the Indian Mutiny ?

I have tried to order the set from US and UK dealers, but each time the postage cost has been consistently prohibitive.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

I never made the plunge but always thought the Indian Mutiny range was very attractive. Ultimately, the cost deterred me but thought it was very well done.

It sure would be nice if Britains could at some time return to this subject and add more figures. Both of the Victorian Cross subjects, the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny, were very well done.

I (unfortunately) took the deep dive into Britains' Gloss Zulu and Indian Mutiny ranges. I therefore hope that additional figures will be introduced in the framework of the Redcoats series.

I suspect I got a little tired of First Legion's PANZERGRAU, as I also invested in Britain's Gloss Sudan figures, which to my understanding are presently limited to the two Camel Corps figures and the one marching Highlander (http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/detail.aspx?ID=6033).

I finished my Seven Years War range for now with the available First Foot range of mostly Grenadiers and the Royal Artillery set.

Any help on any of these subjects would be highly welcome.
