Dear All

I came by this set of Indian Toy Soldiers and to my surprise they were accompanied by a card that states 'This is set 1 of 1000'.

I cannot imagine there was 1000 of these sets produced.

I spoke with Andy at the K&C Brisbane dinner last night, Andy could not recall the figures specifically and I did not actually have the set with me to show him.

Is there anyone who is able to shed some light of this set and the details on the card?

Thanking you in advance

Scott

I have many glossy sets and many of them have those cards. Good question though. Never thought about it.

Simply out of interest, what is the highest number you have on a card ie 326 out of 1000?

Cheers

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but while the box and the set are K&C, those figures don't look like any K&C figures I've ever seen - and (along with Kevin Elliott, Hans Hedrich and Larry Lo), I literally wrote the book on K&C production. I am no expert on Britains, but those look like Britains castings to me. I would ask Andy for his opinion on the photo of the figures. However, I could easily be wrong - I have come across old K&C I was not previously aware of on many occasions over the years.

Thanks Loius for you expert opinion, I am not wholly disappointed as it is still a nice set.

I will certainly not describe them as being King and Country should I ever decide to sell.

At least I finished up with a nice box!!

Cheers Scott

Scott,
is their any identifying mark or writing on bottom of the figures?

Tom

I agree--the rifle arms are cast separately and attached on a plug on the shoulder, aren't they? K&C never used that method, even on the earliest figures, didn't they. I'll second Tom's question--are there any kind of marks, especially under the bases?

Prost!
Brad

Definitely not Britains originals perhaps they could be Dorset copies or could they be early Trophy figures?

Thanks for eveyones interest, I now believe they are made by Traditional Toy Soldiers.

I think they still have a store in London (??) but I have never been there.

Cheers

Ah, so desu!

Do you mean Tradition of London? If so, yes, they are very much still in business. Here's their website:

www.traditionoflondon.com

A venerable seller, with a well-known history and devoted following ;)

Prost!

Scott,
Though the set is not K&C, the box with certificate is an interesting piece. By chance, was there a white label on the side of the K&C box? If so, please let us know as this will indicate the original set that should have belonged to this box. Lawrence

Scott,

Lawrence, there is a little white label on the outside of the box however it is faded to the point it cannot be read.

When I received the soliders I accepted in good faith all was well, the box was in A1 shape and the certificated said No. 1 of 1000. In addition the figures themselves were completely undamaged and still in the rubber bands that secure them, noting the rubber had deteriorated somewhat.

It was not until I spoke with Andy at the Brisbane dinner that I decided I needed to investigarte more further, hence the thread.

Cheers Scott

Scott,

yes, they are made by Tradition of London

Set #8 15th Bengal Infantry (Ludhiana Sikhs) 1890 according to a printed catalog I have.

The set has been discontinued, so no longer available.

I got the catalog in 2000 on a trip to UK, and every other time I have been in London I always make time to visit the shop, have a talk with Steve Hare, the manager, and rummage amongst the discounted/retired box of castings. I always manage to find something that takes my fancy.

Painted sets of current Indian Infantry sets sell for £74.75 for 6 figures, so thats a price to be quided on.

regards,

John

Thanks John

I paid about 100 pounds on ebay (Australia), as I said previously it did not pan out exactly as I expected however they are still lovely figures and they certainly have a story to tell!!

Cheers

Scott,
Unfortunate that the label has faded, but still a great find in that the certificate is No. 1 and you have the old blue box. On top of that, you have a nice set of figures. Congrats again. Cheers, Lawrence
