To everyone.

I am wondering if anyone's collecting habit has been influenced by forum participation?
It definitely has given a direction to my collecting.

Back in August 2008, John Firth a.k.a. "beating retreat" offered his painting services here on the forum and after seeing the works on his website, I got hooked, and the results can be seen in a number of threads and in my albums.

Another major "kick" to my collecting habit came from fellow forum member "Dragoon" who showed us some John Jenkins Designs Jacobite Rebellion figures in a gloss finish. I was tinkering with that idea of converting matte finished figures to "glossies" for a while, but the actual kick-off to doing it, came from the pics I saw posted by "Dragoon". The results and the continuing efforts can be seen on the Matte to Glossy thread.

If it wasn't for the forum, I don't think I would have come to this point.
There is a tremendous amount of ideas and opportunities offered here.

So, if anyone had some similar experiences, I would appreciate if they let it be known here :smile2:

Happy Collecting!

Yes, I blame Robin (villagehorse) for the fact I just had to buy the WB Nile River Gunboat! {eek3}:wink2:^&grin^&grin

Hi Konrad: It got me back into collecting again, especially Trophy, Beau Geste, Hocker, Marlborough and even K & C. I have enjoyed seeing the different collections and especially meeting fellow collectors. Tommy

Hello Konrad,

I was pretty much collecting from a few different companies before I joined the forum and set in my ways of how I like to display my collection but one day I read the TM Terrain section and enjoyed the style/paintings/designs of David from TM Terrain, so fast forward a few years and I now collect a different way and also display my collections a different way, which I am very happy with so I'm very glad Treefrog had TM Terrain on thier website, it surely help influence my choices at one point, great question...Sammy

Hi Konrad. My addiction to TS collecting predates my joining the forum by about 50 years, so the forum hasn't influenced what I collect, but the hobby has become a lot more fun with the ability to discuss the hobby with others and see all the marvelous collections. The knowledge I have gained from the forum and the people I have 'met' are irreplaceable. ^&cool -- Al

I should say a resounding YES to that Konrad. Before I joined the forum - I had been playing about with painting a few castings - mostly from companies that I had found by accident in my fumblings on the web. What I learned from joining - was that there was a whole WORLD of castings available out there - and that by looking at what others were posting - with similar tastes to my own - that led to me either finding the companies themselves - or working out from what others showed - how I might be able to make something similar up for myself - from other casting that I now knew about.

I might also add - that other skills have developed from membership too. I can now take photographs better than I ever could before ( still pretty ropey though!), and move them about from other sites - and e-mail them. I have also learned a huge amount about finding images to help with my making up - repairing and painting of my pieces too - helped by my numerous "friends" on the Forum - from all over the World. Before I knew about the Forum - I soldiered on with my painting - alone - and was completely oblivious to the fact that anyone else was doing what I did! ( even though I knew there must be - or no-one would sell any castings!^&grin).

Put succinctly - my benefits from joining the Forum have been immense - and I will be forever grateful to Peter and Shanno ( and the gang) for allowing me the opportunity to take part and also contribute to it. Thankyou one and all - johnnybach

My collecting habits have definitely been influenced by this forum. When I started I was only actively collecting King & Country (still probably 85% of my collection), with all of my other toy soldiers in storage.

Thanks to Konrad (Kogu) I discovered John Firth's amazing glossy figures. Luiz (Artillery Crazy) got me hooked on CJB Models. Gideon and Michael (Maddadicus) got me to actually pursue my interest in Heco Tinplate Models. Martyn (GICOP) and Bill (W T Allison II) started me collecting Tropy WWI vehicles, horsedrawn sets and marching sets. I probably wouldn't even know about Yeomanry miniatures if Brian (Yeoman) hadn't posted his excellent vehicles on this forum. In short, this forum got me collecting cottage makers, whose unique products I now really appreciate.:smile2:

No for me. I collect the same things now as I did before this forum. my main collection is militaria and there is nothing about this on the forum. My LAH collection and the manufacturers I have collected from pre date this forum

I agree with these sentiments but I doubt I would be interested in Trophy but for this Forum.

It was Mike Neville at a London show that told me about the forum, I then came along to see if I could get any info on K&C......I sure as hell did!:wink2:

I have collected Britains since I was about 5 but never any particular series. I just picked up the pieces liked here and there.

When Britains introduced the Zulu series, The Lt did such a great job with his photos and presented them so realistically I couldn't help but be drawn in.

Also I captivated by Pats wonderful Durbar Collection and when Britains announced the new matt series I jumped in on the ground floor. Although this seems to be now dead in the water.
