I watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it; great acting from Freeman and Damon and excellent direction by Eastwood. It is a great story and although I never confuse movies with history, I am curious how close to the real story it is? I would definitely recommend it, even though the rugby scenes are rather highlitish.

Bill...yes...great show...I can't comment on the authenticity...but Morgan
Freeman is one of my favorites...almost anything he does is good...coupled with Damon and Then Eastwood's direction...I can recommend this one...two thumbs up...

Story in Daily Mail today about Mandela bodyguard who thinks the NZ team could have been poisoned. He was in charge of team security and thinks betting syndicate may have been involved when more than half team got some form of food / water poisoning.

Yeah saw this latest story Brett and it's in line with what is considered fact by most in the know down here. It's still a highly contensious issue for us Kiwi's, but it's pretty obvious that a great deal of effort went into poisoning our team.

It's all ancient history now and it may sound like sour-grapes to some, but if you listen to the All Black team, their coach and management squad at the time it's clear the AB's were robbed through foul play.

Many of our players became very ill just prior to the final and you can clearly see that from the way the team played. Many were throwing up before during and after the match, which was not widely reported at the time.

They played their hearts out despite this and you can see that at the end of the match.

Bloody legends all of them.

It's not surprising 'Invictus' was not a popular movie here in NZ when it was released.

Had not thought about the movie and being watched in NZ after the suspicions about the food poisoning. Probably too much pressure on SA to win after the apartheid era. The movie did show how important the win was going to be to the country and Mandela.

I thought the Rubgy scenes were reasonably well done.

I guess this is up there with bowling underarm{sm2}

And they say politics has nothing to do with sports.

Sadly cheating in sport is nothing new...... I see the latest scandal involves cyclists using little electric motors secretly installed in their bikes.{eek3}

At least the electric motor cyclist has the decency to not win the Tour of France multiple times{sm4}.

It was Mandelas bodyguard who raised it recently, not the Kiwis.

I am sure the food poisoning was just a happy co-incidence for SA sports fans.

However when the SA man in charge of the NZ team security says he thinks it happened then perhaps it did. Would be interested to know the motive of the bodyguard for raising it now. Has he just released a book or something ?

The AB's are simply the best Rugby side in the world and have been the bench mark since Moses was glimmer in his Dads eye, I have no doubt that underhanded happenings occurred back then, as they are almost unbeatable 99.9% of the time and that's a fact! cheating by a forward pass! ^&confuse how does that happen? was the referee in on it as well? think about that a bit! Hey I'm an Aussie so I hope they get flogged by the Poms! {sm2} but one has to admire the best when one see it, even when they're Kiwis. :wink2:

As Brett pointed out it wasn't the Kiwi's who raised the poisoning issue recently, so I'd hardly call it whinging. What is sad though, is your need to list a pile of loosely veiled insults as a response to a topic you clearly know very little about, other than the final score.

At the time the AB's and their management team played the whole thing down out of respect and the NZ public knew very little about the very suspicious circumstances that saw the bulk of their national team suddenly become very ill just prior to the RWC final.......this is something the South African's have conveniently glossed over as they celebrated their 'stunning' win over the AB's.

Despite their illness (we had players throwing up in the changing rooms) the majority of the team took the field and gave it everything they had and the Bok's still only just won infront of their home crowd.
