Yes! Bernard’s been at it again :D. Well that’s a little unkind because a very kind man made this conversion for him from a Sarum Soldiers kit. All my brief will be is to splash some greenish paint here and there ;).

This is the figure as received from Bernard and after a coat or two of grey primer.

Yes I know it could be mistaken for a German but apparently the Irish purchased the uniforms from them.

A colour plate showing how this figure will hopefully look after I’ve played around with it .

Re: Irish Infantryman

Ya takes yer help, where ya can finds it....

The Nationalist Chinese had a good amount of German equipment, too, in the Thirties.

Re: Irish Infantryman

Can't recall was Ireland pro German or anti British. Maybe there was not a difference:confused::confused:

Re: Irish Infantryman

Nearly forgot about this one!.............Was going to start painting but Bernard has just sent me another figure to paint.........this one is a Lieutenant, Artillery, Volunteer Force, 1934-40, again very German looking.

So here is the new recruit awaiting undercoating.

Jeff

Btw, apparently this was again made by a very nice man! ;)

Re: Irish Infantryman

Nice job on the seams, Jeff, they were rather prominent in the pictures of the raw castings. Are these 54mm?

Prost!

Brad, they are true 54mm as far as I know. Figures always look better with a coat of primer.

Bernard.

True to Bernard's word the Hussars have arrived direct from Dorset Soldiers. I will have to add the saddle cloth using a modelling putty of some sort.

Here we have all the parts awaiting cleaning up and assembling.

I thought I should add that I have asked Shannon if the thread title could be changed to accommodate the new arrivals, I see that it has, thanks Shannon.:)

Hi, Jeff, what about using some lead foil for the shabraques? About the thickness of the foil on some wine bottles.

Prost!

Brad, Good idea! I had thought about that but there is a small saddle cloth already moulded onto the horse so I will have to have a play to see which is best way to go.

Jeff

Duh! I didn't even see that on the castings! Hmm. It would only take a couple of swipes of sandpaper or emory cloth, to remove the saddle cloths and saddles, to replace them with something more visible.

Interesting how they're molded, with front and back halves, instead of two sides. The Prins August horse castings are like that, too, though they're solid, not hollowed like these. I drilled holes into the two halves and used a piece of threaded rod as a pin, though I also tested soldering them together.

Prost!

Brad, Dorset make various front and rears so different combinations can be made- standing, trotting etc.

Jeff

Made some progress on Bernard’s Irish Gre…. :D sorry Blue Hussars today. The castings were cleaned up and assembled with gel type super glue. Pegs come in useful again to keep the figure in the correct position whilst the glue is setting. The hollowed out horse halves are more apparent and the joints will be filled with filler and the saddlecloth will be enlarged and moulded to shape.

The riders have been undercoated in grey primer and are drying ready for painting in the morning. To be continued............

Yo Jeff, look good mounted mate, sorry about all the work you had to do. Looks like Dorset dont no how many gold Braids an Hussar have across there jacket, should be six, but the Irish only had five like the Light Dragoons before they became Hussars. Am I right seeing only three, not that it matters if there is only three, then its three lol. But should look a good Escort set. Doesn't look like you can do an Officer none of them have big ones:D Plumes that is:eek:.
Bernard.
