Is there an overall global leader in the Toy Soldier market? (1 Viewer)

In terms of market share and sales volume, King & Country has become the leader during the past 20 years. However, Britains would be the leader if you consider the more than a century it has been in operation producing toy soldiers. Currently, it is second place in terms of market share and sales volume. This is an unbaised opinon since I don't have a dog in this fight given that I do not collect King & Country or Britains. Since none of the toy soldier companies release their sales figures, this is just an educated guess. I don't have a clue as to which company would currently have the third highest market share.

I think this is actually an easy question based on NY...s post and other assumptions.

Agree with Mike too:
Betting on what I perceive as sales volumes:

1. K&C
2. W Britains
or

1. W Britains
2. K&C

as to the rest, look at production numbers. CS - 300 max of each unit, Figarti (100 of each unit), Tgunn (150-200 of each). First Legion I have no idea, but betting/guessing 300 to 500.

Ok, K&C has indicated in the past average run rate is 1000, some single figures - 2000 on very popular sets. Britains has to be close to that or more.

This forum while a representation of the hobby is not in theory representative. I think it is but a small fraction. Go to a big show like Chicago and you will see its a whole big wide world out there!

Anyhow, my 2 cents, but it comes down to simple Math, take production numbers, add them up and you can get to a sample sales volume.

who cares? As long as who one collects produces accurate and detailed releases for what they charge I would buy from the alleged leader or, the one allegedly at the bottom of the pile.

The leader of the soldier market would be the one with either most sales or highest revenue or, something similar, would it not? As collectors don't get to know those details. Its an abstract question like how long is a piece of string??? Pointless IMO!
Mitch

Have to agree with Mitch who cares

K&C and W. Britians are the only companies I collect from. Well...at the moment at least.

But what about the companies that produce their own and consequently have an unlimited production run? To use the criteria stated above limits the question to those companies outsourced in China. Trooper

As a Civil War collector, have you looked at First Legion?

Brad

Brad, yes I have been looking at them. They are very impressive for sure but the money for one figure is a little high for me. I guess that is what you get with very fine detail like First Legion has.

I agree they are a little more but then quality always does. I have gotten to the point where I would rather have a few great figures that cost more than the other way around. Just my feelings of course :wink2:

From the shows i went to
and from talking to dealers i know britains been aroud for a century
but it seems that KC is the most popular with collectors
some dealers told me that KC is their big sellers
I'm not pushing KC it's just my opinion from what i see
U might see it different that's ok too
No politic just opinion

In theory, yes, but which companies do you refer to? Again, there is no "skin" in the game for me, I am looking at it as a business question. I really don't care who is the "market leader", I find this more of an educational discussion, then the emotional ones that plague the board about who is better hogwash.

Hi Guys,

Some interesting theories here to be sure.

To NY Soldiers dont know you or have an axe to grind just used some of your methodolgy to discuss the point. Chris who I do know pretty well speaks highly of you so thats a good endorsement as far as I am concerned.

I really liked Brads point on getting what you really want even with a high price point.

I do somewhat agree with you. This has crossed my mind several times as I have had some issues with a few of the figures I have bought in the past. Do you have any of the First Legion Civil War figures? I do wonder if they are going to keep at that line though.

I agree with u guys
collectors are looking more and more towards quality
I'm the same way quality before quantity
