Someone enlighten me.

This set is on Ebay, 14 bids, starting at $29.99 and now up to $180.00

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123#ebayphotohosting

On John's site it was a 250 limited edition production originally selling for $69.00.

(1) How old is this set?

(2) Is it uncommon for his sets to appreciate this much?

(3) Would you expect all of his sets to increase this much in value this quickly?

It seems like a very good investment return if you were ever considering buying for resale.

I collect them because I like them, not for resale, but is this unusual to appreciate this much?

There are 14 bids by 5 different people, so it's not a fluke by insane bidder.

Any comments?

Please address the age issue if you can.

BM-01 is the most sought after JJ set. It was an early and small production run from a popular line. Probably released around 2006. I would not expect many other JJ sets to reach this level of secondary market interest anytime soon - maybe a few of the other 250 limited BM sets. Most JJ sets are still available from dealers. Funny thing is that these early JJ releases sat on the shelf of a local dealer for a long, long time at retail price.

Concise and addressed well, thanks for the detailed answer, Michael

WoW! That will be in the two hundreds. And thats one set I need. I bought 9 of the sold out sets from the antique center of Gettysburg just last week.

Stan is a good guy to work with, isn't he? I purchase from Stan, Shannon & Pete, Tim Tyler and Mike Hall. I have found the dealers of JJD and K&C to be great people.

By the way, which sets did you get?

Michael,

To answer your No. 3 question, yes. This set is likely to go for +$400 USD.

The retired Monongahela sets have commanding very good prices in the past.

The BM-01 to 03 sets have gone for up to $500-$600 USD a set.

Most retired BM & FM set will go for a minmum of twice what they sold in stores for.

BM-01 250 sets Retail $69 Resale Now $300 to $400
BM-02 250 sets Retail $69 Resale Now $300 to $400
BM-03 250 sets Retail $78 Resale Now $300 to $400
BM-06 250 sets Retail $92 Resale Now $300 to $400

These four sets have sold quite commonly for 4 to 5 times there retail price.

If you can find any of the above under $300 each grab it.

The other retired BM sets go for 2 to 3 times there retail price:

BM-04 500 sets Retail $69 Resale Now $100 to $150
BM-05 500 sets Retail $69 Resale Now $100 to $150
BM-07 350 sets Retail $50 Resale Now $100 to $150
BM-08 350 sets Retail $50 Resale Now $150 to $200
BM-09 350 sets Retail $50 Resale Now $100 to $150
BM-10 350 sets Retail $78 Resale Now $150 to $200

The FM sets are similar 2 to 3 times there retail price.

BA-01 is now becoming hard to find in stores and is going up in price.

The VM sets just retired will go up in value as most dealers were court out by Johns retirement of these. There were to be 500 sets of the VM-01 to 04 and 350 sets of the VM-05. But no one knows how many were made as John is not telling. But as most of the dealers have none available prices will shortly be going up on these.

The trick if you are going to collect John stuff is to keep ahead of the retirements. Because once retired they go like hot cakes.

Pick sets you like, sets that have been out there a while, are under the 500 sets range or new releases in the 300 to 500 set range. They will be a good start, QHL's, Snowshoe sets, BAL-01, WHRR-01 & 2 & JR's (these will go quick).

Monty,

Thank you for elaborating and giving my question such a detailed answer.

Very interesting if you are right, thanks again.

Hi Michael,
My motto is it is worth what people will pay for it. Keep in mind only 250 sets were produced.
Cheers,
Benjamin

It's been revised now to $275.00!

I agree with your motto, but keep in mind, it's only 3 years old (according to Combat).

I thought I heard somebody on tv say the economy was bad.

Isn't this kind of strange to anybody but me?

Paid $69.00 3 years ago, selling at $275.00 today.

Almost 3 full days left to bid on it too.

I wonder what it will be worth in 10-15 years?

JJ's figures should trade on the NYSE.

Fine Metal Commodities symbol FMC :D

I wonder what my year old K&C's, and 2 year old Frontline's are worth?

Michael,

I have some bad news for you, this set is likely to go +$500 USD. Age has very little to do with the price, it is a matter of supply and demand. Good economy or not.

More bad news for you, depending on what sets you brought in the K&C and Frontline Ranges (standard or limited editions) and what you paid for them (retail or discounted).

But assuming you brought standard sets at retail prices, they are not worth what you paid for them and until they are retired for a couple of years will not be. :(

Monty,

When I said,

"I wonder what my year old K&C's, and 2 year old Frontline's are worth?"

That was my attempt at sarcasm, I guess I didn't pull it off.

The good news for me is the bad news, I own sets BM 4,5,7,9,10.

I hope they go through the roof.

Thanks for your info, I'll keep an eye on that piece, I'm not bidding it.

I thought you were crazy at first, but I'm getting on the band wagon with you now.

Michael (mikemiller1955) just sent me a private message thinking I was hiding the fact that I am ajm2110 from eBay.

I think it is common knowledge on the Forum that I sell retired John Jenkins Sets on eBay and privately to a number of forum members. I do not hiding the fact. So you will understand way I am happy to see a BM-01 going through the roof in price or any other JJD set. :D

Just thought I would put that one out there before someone else brought it up. ;)

Andrew Montgomery (eBay ajm2110)

I think Jenkins is selling better then any other toy soldiers on the whole.I'm not counting the old sets from the pre-1970's but soldiers made in the last 10-15 years.
Mark

I have been watching them on Ebay.

They certainly command a hefty price on retired sets for sure.

I want to buy the Battle of Monongahela, but even at msrp all the sets, it's a big number.

To collect them all (the retired sets too), Jesus, I don't know.

I'm going to dabble with them and see what I can find, I may run for the hills and stop halfway through.

Michael

It will be almost impossible to get BM-03.At one time I had all of Monongahela including the French sets except BM-01 and BM-03.I could have gotten BM-01 but I've never had a chance on BM-03.
Mark

It would be interesting to see how much the BOS Ltd Chrismas set from 2007 reaches in the market? As I haven't seen one on ebay for quite a while.

Andy,

There is one on eBay at the moment.

Item Number 120390647850

Starting Price $30 EUR ($39 USD), no bids, 4 days to go.

I was just able to purchase BM-01, 02 & 06 for $450 total and that included shipping. $135 each for BM-01 & 02 and $180 for BM-06. I will have them in hand Monday. I thought it was a great deal. I couldn't pass it up.

MK26GMLS,

That is the understatement of the year. :D

Was it a private sale or a dealer, can you let me know were you got them, I would like to get some also.
